Winamp is simply a vital piece of software for anyone who wants to listen to their music while they work. I can’t think, off hand, of many programs that I use more often than Winamp. Now then, here is the even better part - not only is it superb, it’s also totally free, meaning that anyone can get their grubby little mits on it.

Unlike other Media playing Proggies it is constantly updated, endlessly providing you with better and better quality music and video. ( At the moment I am using the lastest version which is version 3.0 )

Its ability to play any kind of sound file is unsurpassed!!! it allows most types from .wav files, MP3, right through to CD audio files, so you can play your CDs through it using your CDR drive. This makes it highly versatile and adaptable at being able to handle audio.

To play any type of music file all you have to do is drag n drop it into the winamp play window, or you can even drop whole directories into the window and Winamp will read all the files and their contents from the directory in an instant.!!!!!

The ability to create and edit your own playlists is also another good feature, this enables the user to tell winamp the order in which to play their fave tunes.

It also looks rather nice, as their are endless amounts of skins available on the web to customise the way Winamp looks on your desktop.
There are quite a few skins available from the Winamp website some of which are created by users and have been uploaded to the site ready for us lazy people to download.
(A skin just incase you are wondering is a little program that alters the way an application looks for example the look of the meus bars, interface buttons etc.)

There is an option to allow you to have visual effects on your desktop which can either fill the whole screen or just in a small window.This is cool touch when you wa
nt to sit in front of the computer and chill out.

There is th
e ability to create a variety of strange effects in various colours and shades which react to different elements of the music - for example, you could have flying circles spinning in orbit which pulse with drum beats, or swirling lights which change shape with the alterations in pitch and tone. This is really very awesome, and with a little experimentation you get some amazing psychedelic effects swirling around on your PC screen.

You can adjust the sound (ie. treble and bass) very simply, and even create and save your own custom settings with the built in graphic equaliser.
Of course there is the usual default equaliser settings to use, many of which you would find on a standard stereo system (pop, rock, jazz etc.)

Video is another media that can be played on Nullsofts Winamp - again just drag n drop and sit back n watch!!!!! It supports most video types such as MPEG 1 and 2, AVI to name but a few.

This little piece of software has none of the nagging Ads in its interface and there is no annoying pops telling you to go out n buy something which is totally useless.

In conlusion winamp is probably the best media playing software available.. for three maoin reasons.

1> ITS FREE!!!!!!
2> IT HAS NO ADS ANYWHERE IN IT!!!!!
3> SUPPORTS MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDIA BOTH VIDEO AND AUDIO.
