Background

Winamp is a media player made by Nullsoft, who describe it as "a fast, versatile multimedia player for Windows'. The main window is a small panel which has all the basic controls, just like the front panel of a stereo. The main features included are:-
Base skin design
Basic controls: play, pause, stop, forward song, previous song, select new song
Built-in spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope
Track info: author, title, bitrate, sample rate, time, etc.
Additional controls: position slider, balance, volume, equalizer, playlist, shuffle and repeat
Can run in unobtrusive windowshade mode.
All windows dock seamlessly.

You can also create, edit and save playlists in the Winamp Playlist Editor, and create and save amplifier and equalizer settings in the Winamp Equalizer panel.

My Opinion

Winamp is an undeniably useful utility. It can handle many different types of media file, and is extremely stable, crashing very rarely. It takes up very ittle space, and is very customisable, as there are thousands of different skins available for it. There are also many different plugins available, such as screensavers that react to the sound of the music, etc. I would definitely recommend Winamp to anyone who uses multimedia files on their computer.
