I think I'm well overdue to write a music review. The problem was I haven't done one for so long and there are SO many CDs - old and new - that I'd love to write a review of that I really couldn't think which to start with. So I copped out. I've decided to review a music downloading software application instead?.well, it's still about music, innit?! Back when I first got access to the internet at the end of 1999 the infamous Napster was alive and well and I soon found my way there and became hooked on it for a grabbing a few tracks here and there. It soon became something of an addiction and every night I'd sit here lining up some ... Read the complete review

For nigh on a thousand years, Man had foretold of weird and wonderful things that lay ahead of mankind in the 21st Century. The year 2000 was spoken about in awe, as if it were a key turning point in history. As if the changing of a date would prove to be a big factor in the transition from past and present to future. In the months leading up to the new Millennium, we saw an eclipse in the UK, A prediction of the end of the world, that dated from the Middle-Ages, go by without a hitch, and just about the one thing that delivered on it's promise of changing the world forever. Napster had become big business, and the file-sharing world took a step out of the shadows ... Read the complete review

Napster is dead, file sharing isn't. In fact, since the demise of Napster(well it's dead as far as I am concerned) file sharing has just increased in volume rather than it being stamped out as the music industry had hoped. Now, you have access not only to MP3s, but software programs, images, documents and even complete movies if you have the time and patience to download 400MB+ files on a 56k modem! Of course if you have a high speed internet connection then you're well away. A number of programs which allow this kind of sharing have sprung up or increased in popularity since Napster effectively bit the dust. The likes of Morpheus, Kazaa, eDonkey, ... The search for a replacement for Napster continues. Up until recently I had been using Bearshare and Gnotella, the Gnutella clients. Effective as they where, they weren’t as effective as Napster, for a number of reasons – mainly because it was difficult to see what the bitrate and length of the song was, therefore it was difficult to guess if the file was the complete version or not, and I downloaded quite a few songs with the endings chopped off (not terrible, but missing out the last few seconds can be really irritating to an obsessive like myself). After a brief romance with Audiogalaxy (the actual client works fine, but the searching for a song ... Read the complete review

Don't bother reading this now, as they have taken it away.... I will leave the review here though, just incase anyone is interested in what they have missed, and because it's not everyday I get a crown for something :o) ****************************************************** I had Morpheus to get all my MP3's and such like before, but I was being driven insane by the endless pop-ups and it freezing all the time. I was going to go back to Kazaa, that I had in the past but found they have a small charge now.. and being a tight wad I hate paying for things. Wishing that AudioGalaxy was still about (something I loved dearly and miss on a ... Read the complete review
