Advantages: Light-weight graphic design package for the office

Disadvantages: If you are used to Corel, this may be a little different!

I work for a small company and had the job to develop a couple of images which required a little more work than cutting and pasting off the internet or using Microsoft Office Applications such as word or powerpoint. I was horrified that I could not get the images to do what I wanted and was at a dead-end until I came across the xara software whilst doing an on-line search for a farily light-weight graphics program that could export jpeg and gif images which I could then use in any application I preferred whether it be word or in my case powerpoint. Another great thought to add was that they were my images, they were unique and I knew that they would go down well in the presentation as they had been 'customised' by myself.

I downloaded the DL version of Xara, which to my suprise came with a very informative help guide as well as some templates. In my case, which may not be the same as yours, I had prior usage of coreldraw and knew a few of the tools, and a little time here and there, knew my way around the fairly lightweight applcation in no-time at all. When I say lightweight I mean it in referring to the complexity when compared with coreldraw. You have a desired timeframe in which you have free use of the applcation with no restrictions but eventually like any good software application, have to purchase the application to make sure that you have no limits or restrictions and that you pay for the rights to use the program.

I have since been making my own grahics for internal invitations, websites, powerpoint presentations and other internal publications etc. You can view all the details on the software at www.xara.com.

The main points it offers are as follows:

Xara Xtreme is simply the best graphics software for all your drawing and day to day photo needs, ideal for both print and the web.

If you're looking for drawing software then Xtreme is a perfect solution for everything from simple logos to astonishingly detailed illustrations.

If you're working with photos then Xtreme will match your ambitions from simple one click auto-enhance of your photo through to awesome photo compositions.

If you are looking for software for creating web graphics then Xtreme can help you produce all the graphics you'll need for your site, from smart and sharp navigation buttons to eye catching animated GIFs.

Whatever graphics you need and whatever your skill level, the famously friendly user interface and fast processing of Xara Xtreme will make it an absolute pleasure to be creative. And at a price that won't break the bank!

The cost involved in this sort of software is £40 as opposed to what you could pay on the new version of coreldraw - £320 for the full package and about £150 for the upgrade - that is if you have an older version which is upgradeable.

I would like to have known the kind of cost involved.

I tried this. I am quite savvy where my pc is concerned but this drove me mad. I couldn't make it do what I wanted! Seemed to have a mind of its own.
