Advantages: protects from intruders

Disadvantages: slows pc down

I installed Zone Alarm onto my pc after I downloaded a free copy from their site. (www.zonelabs.com)

I was quite keen to use it as it protects your pc from intruders. The security of bank details and other personal information is important. I must admit that I was curious about exactly who would try to get into my machine and Zone Alarm logs that information if it happens. I use ICQ too so that was another reason to install this 'fire wall' software. It costs nothing as long as its just for personal use.

Unfortunately the programme made my pc very slow and sluggish. It appeared to check absolutely everything, which isn't a bad thing in itself but I wasn't prepared to sacrifice that much speed to use it.

It is still worth a try as its free and you have nothing to lose. I have heard of other people who complained about the reduction in pc speed but I also know people who are using ZoneAlarm. Try it, you have nothing to lose although it didn't work for me.

I find it too slow too.Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of hi speed connection.

It's great with DSL, but I guess you can afford to sacrifice a bit more speed, particularly as you run a bigger risk with permanent connection.
