A dog is not just for Christmas but recession too.

The most contradictory statistic I know is that only 3% of Chinese people actually use Chinese medicine, the second is that 87% of animal abusers are classed as animal lovers, the people that have pets. Strangers tend not to kick the neighbours cat. In recession that statistic gets a whole lot worse and we have already seen a 60% rise in the abandonment of domestic pets to Britain's streets and the local charity pounds, up from 7,347 in 2007 to 11,586 dumped last year, according to the RSPCA. It seems when moneys tight animal lovers would rather surrender their dogs and cats than fags and booze in certain households. There's no social class breakdown on who handed over or abandoned their pets although you would expect its poorer people in the economic downturn, which is at least an effort to try and get care for the pets. According to the same Daily Mail article some 1,432 have given up their pets in the first two months of 2009. There is a twenty grand fine for animal cruelty by British citizens if proven although it's unsure if labs like Huntingdon and charities like the RSPCA (see below) can also be fined for the killing of animals for unwarranted and purely financial reasons.
An American animal rights charity has been accused of slaughtering thousands of pets in their care. People for the Ethical Care of Animals, which has big name celebrities like Paul McCartney and Pamela Anderson on board, allegedly found only seven homes for seven pets last year, a one-in-three hundred success rate. According to a report in The Times these guys have received around 20,000 animals into their care since 1998 but rarely housed any, the point of the charity. Ten years later they were up to 2,212 animals killed by them a year. On average they were killing five animals a day and because they don't run adoption shelters the grubbier the pet the less chance it would see the day out in their cages, all very grim considering it's supposed to be a refuge from animal haters. PETA go out of their way to demonise society for being cruel to animals through these celebrity voices yet spend little of the money on saving the poor beasts. Ricky Gervais, the latest animal lover on board the campaign, doesn't mention the charities kill ratio in his act or promotional literature for the charity, up there with the US Army for body count! Celebs Love to harangue people wearing fur coats but don't seem to actually go to these animal centres and discover if they are just a money making scam. In the charities defence they said half of what they receive are stray cats and dogs that are wild and unsocialised.
Alas other animal charities fair little better on that kill ratio. The RSPCA survive purely on donations, an impressive £100 million a year, the chairman claiming a 90 grand salary with subsidised housing and other perks from that. Alas over 50% of the cats they take in are eventually put down, although they claim to hold them for at least two months. They have over £200 million in assets and one branch, the Solent RSPCA, has £3.8 million in 'reserve'. The Swansea RSPCA centre that could hold 140 doggies was knocked down and can now hold far less dogs in the reduced pens, just 47 in their, presumably the rest put down. Why would you build fewer pens?
Britain is a nation of animal lovers and donkey charities receive more money than disabled charities, Brits giving three times as much to animal charities than starving third world ones. Why do the big charities hoard cash and not build new pounds to save more animals though? The RSPCA couldn't wait to put that sacred cow down at that Hare Krishnan sect in Aldenham so to get publicity for the charity ,even tricking the sect and putting it down in front of some members like the SS would.
The animal charities have increasing numbers of health & safety rules that seem to deny people the chance to adopt animals. Parents of children under five are now no longer allowed to have certain dogs and schools are also being denied the right to have animals on the premises, increasing the numbers the RSPCA put down. If the kids tease the animals as kids do then teacher could go to jail, such is the absurd health & safety rulings. The RSPCA also makes a nice percentage of the so called 'Freedom Farms', supposedly ethnical open- range places where chickens and the like are treated much better, but on closer inspection not always the case, some just as disgusting as battery farms. It's a good earn so the RSPCA ask few questions once they have certificated these places. Intriguingly the current and quite rightfully over-hyped swine flu mutation outbreak will be blamed on intensive farming in these type of cramped farms. In East Anglia we had a case where legions of RSPCA officers in their shiny coats raided a farm where hundreds of horses were found emaciated or dead. The farmer was prosecuted, quite rightfully so, but it soon became clear these were mostly ex race horses, electronically chipped and so able to be traced to prominent stables. No prosecutions were bought on those stables. Yet the RSPCA have no problem with putting down thousands of healthy animals in their pounds.
The solution to getting rid of pet if all else fails is simple-pop it in the pot! Koreans eat dog and cat so why not Brits? A nice Badger for starters in lemon sauce followed by cat a la carte and its job done. I am joking of course before you animal libbers post swine flu viles through my letterbox and always find time to pat cats and dogs on the head the way single men do. I think people are too blaze when buying an animal and like the people who took out silly mortgages some where never going to be able to keep up the payments and think its as easy as handing back the keys to lose the responsibility.
If a pet dies on you I'm sure it's terrible, dogs great companions for men and women, although you feel women would rather be with their dog than their man at a certain age. lol.
Vets don't really help by charging extortionate prices for treatments and medicine, repeatedly found out to be fiddling undercover shows but nothing done. Because many animal medicines prescribed are the same as human ones, an animal's only sticker is often stuck over the old label and the price whacked up 200%. I know this to be fact as my ex worked in a vets. Animal lovers my ass.
Summary: Spend the money!
