Advantages: Good polices

Disadvantages: not so easy to get the overdrafts

As a student there will be a lot of banks offering incentives by way of gifts and facilities to students in order to gain your custom. There are many different bank out their but one I would highly recommend is LloydsTSB. Unlike many of the other banks they are not to eager to throw overdrafts at you. I know as a student you need money (I did). However, by not giving it to so easily it means that 1.the funds are there when you really need them, and 2. When you do graduate there may be a lower amount to pay back.

Saying this the reason I like this bank is because they still manage to retain some personality, and treat you as a real person, not just a number. The final point in their favour is that after you graduate they have a great graduate account package which includes preferential loans as well as an overdraft limit of up to £2,000 interest free, which gives you a good chance at paying back the overdrafts built up whilst studying without ever having to pay any interest.

The best advice is probably to ask students which are already at the university, as when it comes down to it the branch you are with as well as the bank can make a lot of difference.
