Working Families Tax Credit: ... think the idea behind the tax credits is good, if only the staff that worked in that government department knew what they were doing! Most families are entitled to at least £10 a week, not alot but its still free money! If you or your partner work over 30 hours a week you get a bonus of some description. Some people claim tax credits and never have a problem, however these are few and far between. There have b...

A. HSBC Student Banking
... s three good reasons to avoid HSBC student banking. One is that scandal you might have heard about re. graduate overdrafts. To cut a long story very short, they advertised accounts as (like most banks) giving you a couple of years grace after graduating to pay off your overdraft, interest-free. This is VERY important as the last thing you want when desperately job hunting is for your debt to keep on rising uncontrollably. Out of the blue, they dropped this last summer - no warning, timed so it d be when students were away, and effecting people who had already signed up. In short, they can, and do, change the terms of their contract without telling you, to remove ...

Less+Than+Satisfied Bank of Ireland Student Banking
... of Ireland s student branch in Queen s Union is an absolute joke. It s service is mediocre and pain-stakingly slow. They fuck up clients names, sex and addresses. When applying with a student credit card they sent me another man s half completed form with his financial details; including his address, employment & income details, spouse and other private information. This is a severe breach of confidentiality. And when I reported it to the bank they simply asked me if I could send it back. To top this off on setting up a direct debit with the bank during my temporary stay in London I had to write a total of 5 letters because each time the staff managed to make a m...

... broke then how can you pay it back? Some people, I’m sure,’ forget’ to tell the tax office their wages had gone up and expected the government to guess, so cutting their subsidy. The temptation is huge; again, those gas and ‘leccy’ bills have to be paid. It now costs £69 to fill your petrol tank every week because of the Iraq war. Another reason I don’t agree with the Working Tax Credit is because there was always going to those high levels of fraud and miss-payment. I would have been so much cheaper to just keep the income tax levels really low for poorly paid workers than introducing this bureaucracy that’s rife for fraud and fiddle. The only way to get people out ...
