Advantages: Big dependable provider

Disadvantages: Perhaps not the best APR out there

I've been using student barclaycard for four years now and I've had nothing but satisfaction from them.

Their service line is always polite and helpful. One experience in particular where my card was stolen whilst I was on holiday in Rome was dealt with very well . The person on the other end of the service line sounded genuinely concerned and actually made me feel a lot better.

The card packacge includes

-no annual fees

-£30 Waterstones or HMV vouchers

-a 15% saving on Waterstones/HMV vouchers purchased
through barclaycard

-up to £600 credit limit

-APR 17.9%

-Free 12 month extended warranty on products purchased with Barclaycard

-Free price promise - they will refund the difference if you find something you bought cheaper elsewhere

-Purchase cover- items covered for accidental damage for 60 days

-Internet delivery protection and online account management

-Barclaycard International rescue (that was so useful in Italy - see above)

-Nectar - anew online points for purchases reward scheme

As you can see the list of features is extensive to say the leasrt. I recently applied for the 12 month extended warranty on my newly purchased Philips 28PW6515c television and it was arranged with no problems over the phone (freephone) and the paperwork was with me within 2 days. Very useful when you consider how much extra guarantee cover seems to cost these days.

I've never taken advantage of the price promise as I tend to look very carefully around different retailers before buying, so I can't really comment on that.

The credit limit was more than enough for me, and they automatically extended it to £1000 when I graduated, although they did give me the option not to take up this offer.

The APR is abit much at 17.9% (6.9% on balance transfers until paid off) but if like me you usually pay your monthly bill in f
ull, this should be no problem.

This new Nectar service is intersting, you can pick up the info in Barclays branches froim 16th september, and I fully intend to look into it. Check
