Thrifty tips!

1. If possible always buy in bulk. Look at the difference in the price between one can of drink and a pack of six, or a two pack of toilet roll and a twelve pack. Works out a lot cheaper in the long run doesn’t it? Either share out the extra by clubbing together or store excess stocks for later.

2. Never go food shopping on an empty stomach. You will be hungry and liable to crack as soon as you see those cakes or smell the fresh bread, buying what you don’t need. Write a list and only buy what is on the list!

3. Beware of special offers. Do you really need it? If the offer is for points then work out what the points would get you – not much. Check around for the best offers but don’t be tempted by false economies. That three for two on branded products might still be more expensive than the same amount of own name products are regular price.

4. Shop later in the day. Shops reduce down perishable food to sell it quickly – you are likely to pick up sandwiches, meat, bread and dairy products for super cheap prices as the shops will only throw them away otherwise.

5. Look out for discounts. Many shops do student discounts, OAP discounts, etc but don’t advertise it. If you don’t ask you won’t get. Always ask if they can do you a deal – money off for buying in bulk, throw something else in. Try, try, try – it can’t do any harm.

6. Share the cost. When going out get as many in the taxi as possible, all go round to one place to watch a video, club together to get one giant pizza for everyone. The more people involved the less cost per person. Ask for group discounts as well.

7. Write reviews for dooyoo – redeem your points for vouchers so you save your own money!
