      A good read!

Cosmo Girl is the teenage version of cosmopolitian! There are several versions of cosmogirl available ; British , American , Chineese , Netherlands , Turkey and czech republic. The British cosmogirl currently costs £2.20 per issue and is published each month. The aim of the magazine is to encourage young women to become leaders and to believe in themselves. It is the british cosmogirl that I am going to review. Cosmogirl features a page such as 'Things you should never change about yourself'' and '10 ways to spend your last pound! ' The magazine prints readers stories such as embarressing moments , problems and real life problems. They pay money approx £50 (I think) for reader's real life stories. Cosmogirl features quizzes such as 'Does he fancy me'. I find these quizzes are pretty accurate! It features a subject such as 'can you make up with your ex besy friend' and it has two readers saying why they believe you can , and another reader who believes it's not possible. Cosmogirl! has a page called 'CG! Talking!' .They feature tips from celebrities. For example in one issue they featured Tom from Mcfly with his tips on how to write a number one hit ! ' I think this is good because he's all ready been there and got the t-shirt , which means he gives tips that he knows are possible to achieve as it's based on his experience in the music industry. Cosmogirl! features adverts such as Always! and a double page advertising their next issue which says when it's out to buy.Their 'next issue' advert is persuasive such as 'A Smaller tum in just two weeks' and 'your most intimate questions - answered! ' Each issue there is an intereview with a celeb popular amog teenagers such as Beyonce and JoJo (who is the same age as most of cosmogirl's readers) A celeb is featured saying what their favourite things are.Celebs in this section have included Pete wenz from the fall out boys! Fashion is a big feature in Cosmogirl! Affordable items are featured in the magazine which I think is great because it means that teenagers who are on a low income can afford them.Included on the fashion pages are two celebs who have worn the exact outfit and then the readers decide who they think looked the best. They also show a picture of a celeb a few years ago with the word 'Then' and a recent photo of them with the word 'Wow! ' They also have tips such as 'How to plan a prom!' etc! They sometimes have a 'special' issie such as a 'prom special' snd a 'summer special!' Boys play a big part in the magazine! The magazine features guys they have questioned in the street such as 'What do you find attractive!'.It has boys' embaressing moments and a guide to lads such as '5 signs your huy mate fancies you' There a 4 posters of 'hot celebs' in each issue.Such celebs include orlando Bloom , Johnny Depp and Bradd pitt.A downside about the posters is that they are back to back.So if you happen to like two guys who are on the same page , then you have decide which side to put on your wall! In every issue a reader shows the type of clothes they wear and how to get their style. This feature is called 'wear it your way' and tells you where you can buy the clothes and accessories from. Each year cosmogirl hold a 'Cosmo Girl Kiss Of Approval Awards' where readers can vote for their favourite beauty goodies such as 'Best face moisturieser' , 'Best body fragrance' , 'Best mascara' amd 'Best shampoo'. The first ten forms picked at random win a prize such as 'cosmo girl goody bag worth £25.This is good because it encourages teen girls that it's important to vote and get your voice heard in order to prepare them for when they can vote when they're 18 in elections. CosmoGirl features beauty tips such as ' Apply your eye cream by tapping it with your ring finger. This boostd circulation and helps de-puff eyes' and also hair tips such as 'Towel-dry hair before applying conditioner as it allows more product to be absorbed rather than diluted! cosmogirl even has it's own website at www.cosmogirl.co.uk where all the features printed in the magazine can be accessed online. They also have daily competitions where you win prizes such as 'moPods'. They also have offers such as 20% off pineapple at debenhams. There are loads of reasons to buy cosmogirl and I think it's a bargain! I have been a cosmogirl reader for 4 years and have never missed an issue! Thanks For Reading!

Cosmogirl has been around in the UK for what I seem to remember since November 2001. You may have heard of cosmopolitan, which is the magazine which is in a similar style but more for the women in their 20?s or 30?s. Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan is a magazine, which is popular in very popular in America as well as here. I?ll start with the price, Cosmogirl costs £1.99, which in my opinion is quite expensive but looking at the other magazines available on the teen market this magazine isn?t as expensive as J17 at £2.00, Sugar at £2.10 and Ellegirl at £2.40. The magazine itself is probably suitable for girls around the age of 13 to the maximum age about 18, as this magazine is based on teenage issues for this age group. The magazine, if it wasn?t obvious is suitable for females, of course males can read it to, but of what interest it will have to them, I?m not sure. Cosmogirl is packed with around 120 A4 sized pages. The magazine does have quite a few adverts, but they aren?t really pointless and they do advertise some useful things. The magazine is split up into different sections, which are: CG Contents, which are basically misc. information about Celebes and beauty, Inner Girl which features real life stories and reports, Cosmo Boy which is a section dedicated to real boys and famous boys, CG Style is full of fashion, beauty and tips and Star Girl is full of information and reviews about films, music and just general gossip. Cosmogirl also includes fun flow charts, interesting and useful reports such as alcohol, problem pages, buff boy posters, horoscopes and the latest gossip. If you think that £1.99 is an expensive cost for a magazine, sign up for a subscription because that?s what I did and it?s a lot cheaper and fun when it arrives through your door. To subscribe it costs £14.99 for 12 issues, saving you £8.89! This month you get a free miss sporty set with eight items of makeup worth £15.00 (There is a coupon inside your Cosmogirl if you want to subscribe). There is also an option for signing up a friend, without them having to know until the receive it. Cosmogirl has a great website www.cosmogirl.co.uk, it features problems, extra information on the cover star, horoscopes, opinions, e-cards wallpaper and lot?s more. If you are live over seas, I think it is possible to subscribe to the magazine online on the Cosmogirl website. For the Americans there is www.cosmogirl.com to check out! So, overall this magazine is great for the girl who likes to be up to date with the latest fasion and beauty buys, gossip and with the buff boys!

Cosmogirl is a good magazine for teenage girls as it is imformative and fun. It is the perfect magazine to read on a boring bus journey as it will keep you amused all the way through. Cosmogirl was launched last year, as Cosmopolitans little sister. I started to subscribe to CosmoGirl after reading the first issue, because it was so good. The magazine is split in to sections: Basically each section has a different theme, for example; boys, fashion, beauty, inner girl, reviews... CosmoGirl covers a wide range of issues and interests. If your into fashion or rock bands- theres something for everyone here. The posters rock and the real life stories are interesting and informative, unlike many other magazines real life stories, that are boring and repetitive, these are detailed and interesting. Cosmogirl gives you the inspiration and courage to step out in to the world and achieve all you can, getting rid of those people who hold you back. Trust me, this mag will make you want to go out and achieve your life-long ambitions, no matter what colour, religion or background your from. This magazine is jam packed with celeb news and gossip about all the fave stars. One of the best parts of this mag is the reviews and quality free gifts-they dont fall apart 2 days after you buy the magazine. Recent examples of free gifts are a make up bag, a drawstring bag, and a manicure set. I suppose £1.99(the mag was originally £1.49)is quite expensive, but CosmoGirl is a lot better than some other, cheaper magazines. Cosmogirl features all the issues YOU want to know about, all the celebs YOU want to see, and its got a FAB website(www.Cosmogirl.co.uk). Make sure you check it out, as you can vote on different subjects, get all the backstage goosip at celeb bashes, and read your daily horoscope.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Cosmo girl is basically the younger version of Cosmopolitan magazine just it's for teenage girls. It is a monthly magazine with all the latest gossip and news in it, it really is an interesting read for a teenage girl. PRESENTATION/APPEARANCE _______________________ The logo is the thing recognised by many which is above, it's bright and when you look on the shelf you won't miss it, the cover always has some famous celebrity on the front which this month is Will Young. On the front pages they show small pictures of certain posters inside and give titles of the reader stories and competitions to get people to buy it. When the magazine is first opened the heading CG Contents shoots out, it's just the list of articles in the magazine, because that's what a contents page is. They also tell you details about the front cover which are not relevant. They have 2 contents pages and so they have the little square at the bottom saying web contents telling us about what articles are on the website. YOUR SHOUT __________ This page is dedicated to the readers of CG, they write in letters to the magazine about articles they liked before or how the magazine has helped them out things like that. An example of a letter in the issue is a girl writing out and saying how she didn't know there were so many girls that had been bullied. There is a bit on this page CosmoGIRL!s of the month which is girls that have done something good for the country, like set up a charity fund raiser. The star letter of the page always gets a prize. There is a thing called Rant-O-Meter this is the subjects most people wrote in about last month, all information put on a pie chart. EXCLUSIVES __________ These are just exclusive stories certain celebrtities tell to CG or exclusive interviews with people. In the recent issue it is an exclusive interview with the Pop Idol 4 finalists, and they are just asking them all the same questions to see if the answers vary. There is a lot of information in the interviews and they are interesting. SHOPGIRL! _________ This is the section to show what items are 'in' at the moment and the best trendy bargains about. Hit or Miss is looking at what the stars are wearing and saying if they are a hit or a miss. The double trouble part is if two celebs are wearing the same. Stylist To the Stars is taking a look at one celebrity, like this week it is Tina from S Club7. Anyway, they take each individual item of clothing and give a similar version of it and where you can get it cheaper. Every month there is a new trend to hit the shops and they are showing a model on the cat walk wearing a style of the item that's been picked, they then show a celebrity wearing it, and under that they show you one like it you can buy in a shop. There is an article in this issue titled 'plenty under £20' showing some great items you can get for less than £20. Fashion week is when they take some items of clothing and a few accessories, they then mix and match them in different styles to show how it can be changed for another occasion just by changing the order they have been put together. Shopping bag is a page to show some new things out, they advertise new things like catalogues, and show you how to make one item of clothing at home, it's interesting. They also choose a shop and give information about it, such as cheapest item, bestseller etc. Beauty Bag is a section on all the latest beauty products, they tell you tips which you shouldn't do and give you a myth of the month, which this issue is that cucmber sures under-eye bags. They tell you a great new product out and one recommended. Hairstyle, this is asection on what to do with your hair, in this issue they tell you 6 of the sexiest hair serums, and a reader which they have changed hairstyle for. They have a part on the hairstyle page called hairdresser speak this is somethin g which hairdressers say that you might not know so it explains what it means here. It akes one celebrity through their hairtsle history, which is quite good to see. Cheap Treats is a section showing all cheap accessories you can get in the shops. INNERGIRL! __________ This is a personal area to the readers of problems and real life stories, on the first page of the section there are love confessions and text message confession. In the recent issue there is an article on girls doing boys jobs and the girls talking about how they got the job, it's quite good. After this there is a true life exclusive, this is just a sotry on a reader which this month is 'I went from prisoner to pop star overnight'. The other good article this time is mum's the word where they have picked a few famous people to have an interivew featured on them and their mums, it's interesting to see the mums of certain people such as Christina Milian. They always feature on a specific subject which is to give a warning on it, like talking to paedophiles online, this issue it's would you risk being raped to get a dvd player? This is about girls using websites online and getting people to buy them gifts by sharing intimate secrts with them. They always have an article on something to do with people personally to, this time it's about the glass being half full or empty. They give make overs all of the time so this time they have taken two friends with different dress styles and changed them about to see if they like what their friend wears. There is a quiz in this section to. It's A Girl Thing is the problem page where all the readers send in their problems to get them answered by a professional on the category they are writing in about e.g health. They always give a list of Helplines & Advice which is handy for people that don't know who to talk to. There is an article on Aaliyah on the celebs confess section, it was her last CG interview before her tragic accident. CG Horoscopes, is a daily summary of a horoscope all through march. COSMOBOY! _________ This is the section most girls love to read, boy confessions are on the front page and boy facts, if a boy read these he would probably find it funny and say that he wasn't like that. This section talks about a fact on boys monthly, this week it's Am I A Good Kisser, which is about how stressed out boys can get about the subject. Every issue you get free stickers of male celebs. The boy pages are all posters of the lads voted by readers of Cosmo Girl, well not usually just this issue, usually it's just who CG pick. Snog-o-meter- this is when they take a picture of a boy and 4 girls decide on how kissable he is by appearance, it's quite funny. STYLEGIRL! __________ The first pages of these sections are models showing off some items of clothing to do with a theme picked for the photo shoot. After this it's an article on some nice tops out and showing you what they are, the price and where to get them. Every month there is usually an article which is about a reader going into shops for a reason, which this month is to shop like posh, but one week it was shopping in supermarket shops like Tesco, Asda etc to see what kind of clothes they can get there without being embarassed because it isn't trnedy enough. On the style pages they always show some ideas to wear your makeup, and the steps on how to do it also what they recommend for it and the picture on the model to show what it looks like. Cut-out and keep sheets are little squares on certain tips such as tweezers and eyebrow shapes or shades for your skin colour. The health page is for tips on keeping healthy, and how to keep yourself looking great. GIRL!ON THE GO ______________ CG Diary s a diary of the month and what happens on that day. There are lyrics usually for a good song out that month. There is usually an article on music so this issue it's on ones to watch. meaning new musicians which will be big. There are lots of pictures and articles of celebrities on these pages. CG always have an interview with one famous person every montyh in the recent issue it is Philip Oliver. Again there is another quiz this month on what award are you destined to win. This issue there is an article of shops he celebs love to shop in. Sneakapeek is a bit about new videos and movies out their ratings on it and what it's about. The tv programmes have a section to about whats happening on them. There is a bit about new albums out and ratings for it also and what to expect when hearing it. There are ratings also for singles coming out, but not ratings like 5/5 ratings like is it rocking, one for your mum, good for a snog etc. The last pages of the magazine are filled with adverst and pictures for a certain subject, this issue it's stars and their dogs. CONCLUSION __________ This magazine I would definitely recommend for teenage girls if they are looking for entertainment. There are so many teen magazines out there nowadays but this one truly sticks out the most. I think the articles are more original with this magazine and it has more in it for reading not just pictures. WEBSITE=www.cosmogirl.co.uk

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Ok. What’s the deal with this? Two magazines are released on similar days both ending with girl. I’m talking about Elle Girl and Cosmo Girl. Both offspring’s of older fashionable magazines. If you don’t know what they are, they’re Elle and Cosmopolitan. Anyway I bought Cosmo girl a few days after purchasing Elle Girl. I had a good read of it and thought well these magazines are oddly similar but different in some ways. I’m sure the same company makes both magazines. Some adverts appeared on exactly the same pages in both magazines! There is one difference between the two though. Cosmo Girl is a monthly whilst Elle Girl is seasonal thing which definitely gives Cosmo girl more appeal! THE COVER~~ The cover has a picture of Hear’say star Suzanne Shaw, Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton and Irish star Samantha Mumba. It is quite a plain cover as the background is white but still you don’t really notice that. Cosmo is written in the neat font as cosmopolitan but girl is written a lot funkier to give it a teenage, girly image. It kind of looks like graffiti. There is a huge orange block going across the cover which says ‘mega star first issue!’ which points out its there first issue. Also in the corner its written ‘must keep first issue £1.49’ which actually made me purchase because I wanted to see what the first issue was like. Compared to Elle Girl, there is a lot more information on the content on the cover of the magazine and that big orange block is quite irritating. CONTENTS PAGE~~ The first contents page is quite boring and plain as opposed to Elle Girl. It has an A4 picture of a girl and on top of that the information on the cover stories. The second contents page is a lot more colourful and has headings just like Elle girl. ShopGIRL is mostly about shopping and fashion. It contains celebrity style’s, styles under £20, and other fashion related articles. InnerGIRL is all about the girl’s inner feelings. True stories, celebrity problems, career quiz and problem pages. CosmoBOY is all about…well guys of course. It has Eminem stickers, boy wallpaper, an 18-year-old guys diary and horoscopes. StyleGIRL is all about fashion, health and beauty. It has stuff like beauty products you cant live without and stylish hairstyles. GIRL on the go is mostly about celebrities and interviews. I really liked the fact that in the corner of the page it had the web contents also. It has different headings and information on what kind of stuff can be found on their official website. Something I don’t usually see in magazines. FASHION~~ The fashion in this magazine begins in the shop girl section, which is all about fashion gossip in the high street and celebrities. They begin with showing celebrity’s hits and misses in the fashion world. They show seven celebrities each wearing either a good outfit or a not so good one. Also in this magazine they show Britney’s Fashion story and in some outfits she doesn’t look so lucky. Just like Elle Girl, Cosmo girl shows you how to get a certain stars look. In this issue its Rachel Stevens from S Club 7. Her personal stylist gives advice on how to get her look. They also have a section on what’s coming to high streets near you. This issue its Mini Skirts. They have sorts. From denim to Stripes. All cat walk copies that should be available in high street stores soon. They show what types of mini skirts are on the catwalk, then what type celebrity’s are wearing then a high street version. The plenty under £20 section was really useful as it showed the rock chick look on a budget. They have tops, jewellery and bags to sneakers. This look isn’t really my kind of thing but its still a cool look for not so much. I really enjoyed the hottest buys on the hi gh street section. It shows really cool clothing, which is available to buy from high street stores. They have things like colourful tops to the hats that are in fashion, its only one side so it’s not much but its still worth a look. I absolutely loved the fashion week section. It shows how you can buy seven items of clothing and make them last for seven days. It shows how to mix and match items to get whatever look you want, from dates too work. It’s really useful, as I just love to mix and match my outfits. It’s set out like a diary, which, like one day you’re going out on a date, the next you customise your outfit for bowling etc. They also have four extra accessories to add a finishing touch. I am really obsessed with the red cord trousers by Coca Cola Ware, but haven’t a clue where to get them. They do have a number under each item though but I’m not really sure what its for. Might call it if I still can’t find the cord trousers! The pretty Grown up section is really cool in my opinion. It shows really smart clothing, which isn’t too grown up. The clothes still have the teen edge to them but they’re all still really nice. Very useful for a job I’d think. The get our skates on section is more teenage and funkier. The clothes are really cool and definitely for a girly night (or day) out. Just like Elle Girl there is a section on Denim. They have two pages dedicated too Denim Jackets and one page dedicated to jeans. The denim jackets section is really good because they show different styles of denim jackets and what’s in fashion and what isn’t. They have twelve different jackets too choose from. The jeans section is split up in to three different sections. A selection of jeans for tall girls, a selection for sexy girls and a selection for petite girls. HAIR & BEAUTY~~ Fruity beauty is a section for fruity beauty products. It’s a lush section and has s tuff from fruity lip balms to shower gels. A very nice section. The beauty bag section shows all the musts for a girl’s make up bag. They have things that the stars are wearing to lovely lush perfumes. Also at the bottom of this page there is a little myth of the month, which is quite funny. The hairstyle section was something I enjoyed. They gave a girl a completely new hair do. They even show a little section, which shows Beyonce Knowles hair story. Man that girl has never had a bad hair day has she! Also on the hairstyle page there is a list of 6 of the sexiest hair waxes. Waxes from Nicky Clarke to Wella. The ‘for the awesome some’ article was quite good as it showed what key makeup a girl needs. They showed what products are good such as base, mascara, blusher and lipstick. The power colour/miss sporty promotion was quite good. It’s a quiz to determine what kind of miss sporty make up would suit you and to determine your power. The colours are very cute and it is quite a useful quiz even though its promotional. The cheats guide to perfect skin is an excellent article. It has little paragraphs on how to deal with little skin disasters and how to apply make up. They even have recommended some make up items for different skin tones from fair to dark skin. I am the type of person that is not bothered with leaving her hair open. So I tie it up most of the time. So the article on the perfect pony was brilliant. It shows different styles you can do and what types of ponytails are in fashion. It also shows the type of styles the celebrities are wearing. This article can definitely jazz up any ponytail! HOROSCOPES~~ The horoscopes in Cosmo Girl are really colourful but in my opinion very cluttered. The good thing about the horoscopes is that it has a daily horoscope and a little paragraph for each day. Each star sign doesn’t have a picture to make it unique from the others. The horoscopes are spr ead out over two pages. I think the horoscopes are really good as they’re a daily thing, but if it weren’t so messy it would be much better. INTERVIEWS~~ The first interview in the magazine is with the three cover girls. Suzanne Shaw, Natasha Hamilton and Samantha Mumba. The interview is really good and even though I can’t stand any of them I still found the article interesting and worth reading. The interview is done in the form of rules. As in there are ten rules a Cosmo girl should live by and they each have there little say about them. They also have a little ‘where do you see yourself in 5, 10, and 20 years’ column and the girls talk about where they think they’ll be. There is another sort of interview with loads of celebrities. Cosmo girl asks them who inspired them to be the best they could be. They ask people like Misteeq, the girls from S Club 7 and the cast of home and away. Another interesting ‘almost’ celebrity’s interview is good. They show four girls and name four bands. These girls almost made into these bands and it’s quite interesting. There is a real life story by Keisha from the Sugababes. She explains how people spread rumours about her in her school, which got her into a lot of trouble. There is also a short interview with the newcomer Jo Breezer. Its quite short but covers a lot of information about her. Also on the same page is a ones to watch article showing artists people should watch out for. There is quite an intimate interview with the former member of the band that is no more. J from five. It’s mostly about what he wears to bed and that sort of stuff. GOSSIP & REVIEWS~~ Gossip is very important to me. I need my fix of celebrity gossip! Toward the end of this magazine there is a section with the latest gossip. Its quite good but needs a lot more gossip to get the thumbs up from me! The Cosmo girl barometer is qu ite cool because it shows all the stuff that’s in fashion and not in fashion. The reviews were quite good. The magazine reviewed five movies in the cinema and four movies out on video. There are also reviews of television shows too, which are ok but a bit more information may be more useful. The music reviews are really good but like the television show reviews they lack information, but still are quite good. REAL LIFE STORIES~~ There is one main real life story in the whole magazine. It is about how a girl had to deal with a racist attack and how her house was set on fire but how she also managed to save her family. It’s a really touching story and I enjoyed reading it. I really enjoy real life stories and this was a great read. PROBLEM PAGES~~ The problem pages are just like those from any other magazine. You’ve seen the questions all before. There’s a doctor to help with health problems, a counsellor to help with sex/relationship problems and another counsellor to help with life issues. Also readers try to help solve problems also, which is quite good. GUYS~~ In this issue there are quite a few posters to stick up on ya wall! There are eight posters all together. They are of Robbie Williams, Usher Raymond, Dermot O’ Leary, Abs from Five, Ashton Kutcher, Sean William Scott, Simon from Blue and lovely Josh Hartnett. The posters are very nice! Before the posters though there is a little quiz to determine out of these guys you are most likely to end up with. There is an article on how to make your boy mate your boy date, which is quite good. It shows 4 key points on how to make him your date. There’s also an article on an average guy from Newquay. But he is a champion surfer who’s 18. It is basically a diary of what he gets up to. Also free with this issue is a whole page of stickers of the one the only Eminem. There’s a whole page of the m but since I don’t really like the fella there no use to me. GIVEAWAYS~~ The magazine doesn’t have many giveaways but it has one competition to win £300 worth of study stuff. The pack contains stuff like stationary, backpacks to a portable TV. Its quite a useful pack but not very appealing. Who wants to win study stuff?! Another competition is a £500 voucher for house of Fraser. Something I would LOVE to have!!! There are smaller competitions in the magazine also. PRICE~~ The price of the magazine is brilliant. It costs only £1.49, which is pretty cheap for a teenage magazine. These days they cost at least £2.00 but this magazine had it all for not so much which was very refreshing. I hope this wasn’t just a trial price but it’s still good. There are quite a few pages and for the price it is definitely worth it. ADVERTISEMENTS~~ The magazine seems to have a lot of adverts. The whole magazine has 144 pages 43 of which are all adverts. When reading the magazine it seems like there are so many adverts. It’s a first issue so you can’t really blame them for that. SUBSCRIPTION PRICE~~ For a launch offer the magazine has offered a years subscription for only £8.94, which is amazing. That’s twelve issues. I think that is a great offer and I took it up straight away! WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE~~ This magazine was full of different things but I thought they’re movie, music and television reviews lacked some information, they were good but more information would be better. Also it would be nice to see more celebrity gossip, and maybe more pink and glitter used! OVERALL~~ This magazine was packed with everything I wanted to see. It had little things from celebrity gossip to brilliant fashion and beauty advice. Its great and I know for a fact I will be getting the next issue. I have been very impressed with this fir st issue and can’t wait to read the next! A great magazine at a great price! I much preferred this magazine to Elle Girl it had similar features but more.
