Is Muhammad mentioned in The Bible?
The 5th book of The Bible, Deuteronomy, which was written by Moses under inspiration from God, contains in verse 18 of chapter 18, the following prophecy:
''I WILL RAISE THEM UP A PROPHET FROM AMONG THEIR BRETHEREN, LIKE YOU, AND I WILL PUT MY WORDS INTO HIS MOUTH......................''
Christians would declare that this prophecy is referring to the future arrival of Jesus Christ. Muslims would suggest that is not necessarily the case. The prophecy needs to be more closely examined, after first being broken down into its' 3 parts.
(1) ''I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren''
The founding father Abraham had a wife called Sarah. She was barren, unable to have children. In line with the tradition of the times, Abraham had a child with their servant girl, an egyptian girl named Hagar. She gave birth to a son, Abraham's first son, his heir, Ishmael.
In time, God opened up the womb of Sarah, who conceived to Abraham, another son, Isaac. When he was older, Isaacs sons became the heads of the tribes of Israel,of which Jesus was part.
Ismael's offspring became the Arab peoples which we know today, of which Muhammad was part.
So Muhammad was indeed from among the brethren of the people of Israel....BUT!....SO WAS JESUS!!
(2) ''like you'' (meaning, ''like Moses'')... So who was MOST like Moses?....Jesus?.... or Muhammad?
Muhammad brought his people God's laws....so did Moses.
Muhammad and Moses both had human fathers....Jesus did not.
Jesus was a Jew, so was Moses.... Muhammad was not.
Moses was married with children, so was Muhammad....Jesus was not.
Moses was brought up by foster parents, so was Muhammad....Jesus was not.
Moses gave people a message directly from God, so did Muhammad....Jesus did not.
Moses died naturally, so did Muhammad....Jesus did not.
So Muhammad was MORE "like Moses" than Jesus.
So part 2 of the prophecy is more applicable to Muhammad.
(3) '' I will put my words into his mouth''
Jesus used to say things like, '' I say nothing of my own originality'', or '' I speak just as the father in heaven has taught me''. Do these expressions really mean that God had ''put his words in Jesus' mouth''?
Consider now, Muhammad, who was commanded by The Angel Gabriel to ''recite''. Gabriel had come to Muhammad with the very words of God. When commanded to ''recite'' Muhammad at first refused, thinking himself not to be intelligent enough.
Eventually Muhammad opened his mouth and out poured the words of what we know today as The Qur'an. The words came out of his mouth, so in order to do this, the words must have been "put into his mouth". Muslims would argue that this fulfills the third part of the prophecy more satisfactorily regarding Muhammad, than it does regarding Jesus.
On the basis of this prophecy, it may be seen as fairly conclusive that Muhammad was indeed mentioned in The Bible.
Summary: Muslims must see The Bible as true because it foretold Muhammad
