As the description for this category asks for personal experience of working as a Chartered Accountant I have no intention of going through the ways and means of becoming one. If you fancy it, there are plenty of places to find out what you need to know, either on the web or by other means. Why did I decide to become one? I used to be asked this in interviews and my stock answer was that Accountancy is the first word you come to in a careers book. After all these years, I have not come up with a better answer. INTRODUCTION I finally have the answer to that common interview question, 'What is the hardest thing you have ever done?' 'Chartered accountancy exams, hands down' is usually my response. At school I passed GCSE and A level exams without too much fuss, and managed to come out of a three year degree course in finance fairly comfortably whilst mixing the maximum amount of pleasure into my student years.
