I work in the engineering industry and for the last 18 months I have been working freelance. The rate of pay for freelancing is much better and you can often work on a variety of jobs thus cutting out the boredom factor. If you are thinking about going freelance in any industry I recommend thinking it over very thoroughly before taking the plunge.
Most jobs are temporary and they all have to end at some point. I have often found myself in between contracts worrying about when the next paycheck will come. It can be a very sporadic way of working. Holidays are usually not paid for and so if you spend money on a holidy it costs you a weeks wages as well. Often there is a small notice period and you could be working one week but not the next.
I have met many different and interesting people from all walks of life and have remained friends with many of them. The more people you meet the more people will know about you.
If you think you would enjoy the freedom and ever changing ascpects of freelancing than I would recommend it. However, if you worry about money or have many outgoings than think seriously about it and do your homework.
