Advantages: Brilliant structure and education as well as job oppertunities
Disadvantages: A lot of hard work!
I think it is important to look at jobs within the Animal Care industry as well as education. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is a prime example. I have not worked there although I do know a number of people studying at the college currently and they feel the jobs within the sector are good, the course structure is well laid out and easy to understand and they have no regrets about choosing to study at the RCVS. Heres so of the basics on the RVCS
Purpose of the RCVS
The RCVS is the main board for veterinary surgeons within the UK. Their main functions are;
 Monitor standards of veterinary education
 Deal with issues of veterinary professions
 Keep a register of the veterinary surgeons within the UK eligible to practise
The main purpose therefore is in education and maintaining high standards within veterinary surgeons.
The role of the organisation in the animal care industry
 “To safeguard the health and welfare of animals committed to veterinary care through the regulation of the educational, ethical and clinical standards of the veterinary profession, thereby protecting the interests of those dependent on animals and assuring public health. “
 “To act as an impartial source of informed opinion on animal health and welfare issues and their interaction with human health. “

How income is generated
Income is generated through sponsors. Obviously the organisation is not a charity, so the workers are paid by the customers. For this reason much of the organisation itself is paid for by sponsors and donations from workers. Not many events are done by the RCVS, where other organisations need to do this.
Current campaigns or events
The new RCVS Annual Report and the June 2005 edition of RCVS News have now been published and these are both available to download or order via RCVS online. Copies were posted to all RCVS members.
As last years campaign was so successful, the Annual Report offers a portrayal of the activities which have happened in the past year. The report also puts down the future plans and proposals in the short and longer term plans and records interesting and useful facts and statistics about the veterinary profession.
In a speech given to educate, Dr Wilson will discuss how the racehorse has adapted for its high speed exercise, as well as the injuries it suffers from and what limits the horse’s athletic performance; he will also compare the racehorse to other athletic species such as the greyhound.
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is asking for the views of the animal-owning public, veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, MPs and any other people who wish to contribute to update the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
Over the last few years, the Government has stated more than once that the government wishes to modernise the Act, the RCVS Council wants to be prepared with its proposals when the Government makes time available to consider the options.
