For people who wish to use it for destop publishing, i would not recommend this model. It will definitely irritate you! I can't even keep two applications running at the same time even though i already expand the ram and memory to 10 GB. If you only need simple photoshop usage and surfing in the net, this is good for you. Please give me a rating if you found my experience is useful f...more

Crowned Review Apple iMac: Use your iBrain... buy an iMac! (1553 words)
by - written on 17/05/01 (Very useful, 672 readings)
Rating:

History The iMac was introduced a number of years ago (in the ancient days when OS 8 had just come out...), and caused a bit of a stir in the PC market. It was the only computer that shipped at the time WITHOUT a floppy drive. Cos the Mac ain't floppy, it is always hard. (sorry...). The iMac has been, probably without a doubt, Apple's saving glory. It saved the PC world from the hum-drum of boring grey-white PC's. Brilliant blues, groovy greens and great graphites are the answer! The Hardware I must admit, that with a Mac, you don't get as MUCH as you get with a PC. The basic iMac is £650, and hasn't got any FireWire ports, ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Not brilliant, but better than a PC! (642 words)

After much umming and arghing about whether to get a PC or an iMac, I finally took the plunge and went for the iMac. This was mainly because I got a great deal from John Lewis for an ex-display Bluebury 350Mhz iMac, at £499 with the full two year warranty I couldn't really say no! The reason I was unsure about whether to get an iMac was the problem of compatibilty. There is a huge range of software and hardware availblle for the PC, and while the Mac is quite well supported, you cannot just go down to your local Dixons or computer store to pick up some cheap software or games. There were a few reasons why I eventually decided to go for an iMac. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Apple iMac - iMazing (352 words)
by - written on 14/12/00 (Very useful, 63 readings)
Rating:

The iMac is extremely simple to set up - less than 5 minutes, seriously that's how long it took me! I have set up a couple of PCs and they took at least an hour, if not two, to set up. Configuring/ setting up the system is really easy and intuitive to do. In general Apple Macs are more expensive than most PCs: For example: If an apple mac has, say, a 6GB hard disk and a PC has exactly the same size hard disk it would be logical to assume that they would be of the same quality. This is not always true, one thing to bear in mind with apple is that the quality of the products it makes is extremely high. So in this example the hard disk in the iMac would ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Conversion of a Technophobe. (555 words)
by - written on 07/08/01 (Very useful, 208 readings)
Rating:

I purchased my iMac about 18 months ago. I had never used a computor before and this was an ideal machine on which to learn and grow. There were two things that attracted me to the iMac, rather than a conventional PC. The first was the amazing design. Yes, I know it's shallow, but it does look good. The second was the fact that it didn't come with an instruction manual. Now I know that sounds bizarre, but if it didn't need one then it couldn't be that hard to operate and being a bit of a technophobe this has to be good. And by and large it has been. The layout is clear, simple and easy to navigate. The claim that it is easy to connect to the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Apple iMac: iMac crash syndrome (456 words)
by - written on 17/05/01 (Very useful, 725 readings)
Rating:

Am I all alone? I think I know how kamikaze test pilots must feel, so this opinion is going to be a bit schizophrenic. Is this a common problem with iMacs? Crashing. I have to confess to being a regular PC user at work myself, but I occasionally dabble in a little of the other, and am surrounded by iMacs. They all suffer from regular crashes, much more so than I notice on a PC. Perhaps they’re not set up properly, so the comparison isn’t fair, but I wonder if this is a widespread problem. It tends to happen when opening applications or files, but can come out of the blue, even when starting up. No complaints about the price, or problems ...  Read the complete review
