Advantages: Quick first-class free delivery, Compatibility guarantee, Fast navigation throughout the site - no long waiting for pages to download
Disadvantages: Exclude VAT on price-comparing lists, Needs a little more in-depth information on memory modules
THE PURCHASE:- On the 03/12/02, I purchased a 256Mb of 2700PC memory from Crucial. I began at the home-page www.crucial.com and used the drop-down menu at the top left of the screen to navigate to the UK section. From there Crucial makes it a complete breeze all the way. Very Impressive. Why not open up a new browser window with Crucials home-page and follow the walk-through below. WALK-THROUGH GUIDE:- Here are two alternative ways of purchasing from Crucial. 1. If you happen to know some of the details of your current system, it's likely even a beginner could navigate through the "Here's a list of top system manufactures:" drop-down menu. You simply choose the manufacturer of your motherboard e.g. ASUS in my case. Then in the "product lines:" drop-down, pick ASUS motherboards. From there you are given a list of various motherboard versions ASUS have made. I knew that my board was the A7V8X version, and sure enough, it was on the list. After selecting it, I was presented with a neat list of memory modules available for my board. Crucial offer a "compatibility guarantee" and I can see why. You can't go wrong. Obviously from the final list presented to you, you will need a little knowledge about RAM before selecting for purchase. Easy with a little homework from the very same site (use the "Help" link). Though I did feel I needed to learn more in depth elsewhere before committing to a transaction. One let down with Crucial is that they do not display costs including VAT in that final neat list of theirs. This can be a pain. At the end of the day, we want to know exactly what we're going to paying - so it would be better if they could change this in the list rather than waiting until your at the checkout and get a nasty surprise. 2. If however you do not know what motherboard you have. You could always use "search by memory type".
This isn't as foolproof as the previous method. More knowledge of RAM is required plus you need to know roughly what type your after. DELIVERY:- What's fantastic about Crucial is they offer Special Royal Mail Delivery for free (this depends on how many items you are buying of course). I received my memory the following day at around 9:15am. It came in a box within a sealed bag. *UPDATE* Have tested the RAM and works flawlessly. Can't comment on customer services, as there has been no need for me to contact them as of yet. Crucial is one of the most impressive places I've purchased goods from over the Internet.
