Choosing a video card is a very important decision when you come to parting with your hard earned cash. What video card you go for depends drasticly on what you require and what you are willing to spend.
If you are a gamesplayer, then the sort of card you should be looking at is one that excels in 3d rendering and other 3d tests. FPS (Frames Per Second) is a very important thing to consider, as a low fps will affect the gameplay. Also, a games card needs to be supported by games, therefore the card should at be compatible with D3d and OpenGL for best performance. The higher the resoulution the crisper the graphics, and hence the nicer the eye candy. So the cards I would recomend would be 3dfx and cards based on the GeForce2 chipset.

For other uses, DVD performance and other general video performance are to be considered. The cards I recomend would be from either ATI or Matrox as these offer the best all round cards.
