Important stuff you’ll need to know about what to look for in a nice graphics card.
A basic graphics card consists of one main thing: the chipset. This is the heart of the graphics card, much like a processor to a computer. It does all the calculations, and greatly determines the card’s speed, and price.
The chipset is usually manufactured by a certain company, then sold to several other companies, where they create a card using the chipset. This is usually the case, but not always. Cards made by a company which manufactures the chipset on the card tend to be cheaper (ATI). Then the kind of Graphic card u want depends on
1. User
Who are the users for the computer ?? If most of the users use such as simple application such as Microsoft Word or non graphical software, It’s better to buy cost effective graphic cards. Probably STB Riva TNT 8 Meg should be suffice for that type of users. If the users are truly hard core gamers, you might want a 32 GeForce Graphic Card or a Voodoo or the likes
2. Software
Most of the graphical softwares require a plenty of RAM for graphic card. If you use AutoCad or other 3-d modelling software, you might need a graphic card that can handle Open-gl. If you use a lot of Adobe Photoshop, you might need a graphic card that can support high resolution refresh rate.
3 Hardware associated
You need how high your monitor can support the resolution. If you have 15 inch monitor with 0.28 pixels, it is a waste to buy 32 Meg GeForce. Also, make sure you check whether your computer can support AGP Graphic Card. If it does, then you should buy AGP Graphic Card to utilize your system.
Well, like I said, you want the best utilization out of system but spending extra on graphic card won’t harm. May be later down the road, you need to upgrade your computer, you still can use the graphic card without buying the new one. But dont go for the latest as t
