Description: 1x-12x CDR

First of all, the standard silver/ice CD-R's have a silver underside! Most CD-R's have a light blue underside which differentiates them from normal CD's, but although this doesn't make a difference, it does make your CD-R's feel less ... more

Premium Review Memorex CD Media: Not Xeromem! (348 words)

Despite the scary fact that Memorex spelt backwards equals 'zero mem', the quality of their CD-R's is not poor, and most likely in line with the rest of their storage media. I recently bought a 20 (+2 free as a bonus!) pack of Memorex CD-R's (700mb/80mins/1x-24x) in slim jewel cases, and a pack of 10 colour (4 aqua, 4 flame and 2 ice at 1x-16x) ones, and thus far I have found them to be the best CD-R's yet. There isn't much difference (probably none) between CD-R's, particulary top branded ones, but in terms of aesthetic pleasure, Memorex get top marks. No one is going to turn down the chance of a free collection of MP3s are they? Not if they are sound of mind or like the tunes on the little silver disc. So when it comes to getting those lovely little tunes from your home PC (or work for that matter) into a format that you can play on your hi-fi, you need a good CD. I have experimented for about 18 months with different brands and have now come up with a winner. The winning product? Memorex CD-R80. Why? Well, I have tried them all, (Sony, Kodak, Verbatim,PC World Own Brand) and this one beats them all hands down. Firstly, Their size. The ones I use , ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Memorex CD Media: Memorex Black - possibly the best there is... (530 words)

Yes, that's right, BLACK CDRs! The underside of the Memorex Black is, as suggested by the name, black. Just like a Sony Playstation CD. Now, for anyone thinking of backing up Playstation games onto a black CDR, let me tell you that the colour of the reflective layer doesn't actually make a difference to the encoding of the data - therefore your Playstation will still need to be chipped to play backups, even if you record onto a black CDR. Where the black CDR does have an advantage though is in the quality of reflectance. Games consoles tend to have much weaker lasers in their CD ROM drives than PC's, and therefore they can sometimes ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review You get what you pay for (206 words)

After 3 years of burning CDs I have tried too many types of blank media to name - and at the end of the day I have to say that, on balance, you get what you pay for. Cheap no brand silver/blue CDs may seem like a bargain at time of purchase but I have found that a) they have a higher failure rate, b) ordinary drive have more problems reading them, and c) they scratch very easily. I now use Memorexs (but have also had excellent results from Sony discs), they rarely fail during write, they are much tougher and scrath resistant, and without fail they work in other drives (even non PC drives). Higher quality CDs also look much better, not having that ...  Read the complete review
