Not only are you getting a great CDR/CDRW writer, you are getting a fast writing speed with a nice price. Originally the Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 sold for over $300 and now it is listed for $185 and can be found brand new for $139. That is a great price for this CDRW writer. The PlexWriter 8/4/32 can write a 650 megabyte CDR in about 10 minutes. Most CDRW writers provide 2MB for buffering, this unit has 4MB for better performance. PlexWriter 8/4/32 In all CDRW recorders the first number is for the CDR, the second for the CDRW and the last numbers are for the CD player. The PlexWriter 8/4/32 writes CDRs at 8 times the speed and the CDRW writes at 4 times the speed. It can read all CDs at 32 times the speed. The PlexWriter 8/4/32 supports the following: CD-DA, CD-ROM, (Mode 1 & Mixed Mode) CD-ROM XA, (Mode 2 Form 1 & Form 2) Mode 2 CD-I, Photo CD, Video CD, CD-Extra, CD+G and CD Text. Requirements A Pentium MMX 200MHz or better. (AMD K6-2 200MHz or better) 64MB of RAM ATAPI IDE interface connection Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and NT 4.0 What you get The Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 drive A very instructive manual Mounting Screws One blank CDR and one blank CDRW disc. Software Plextor Manager 2000 - Lets you control the drive's performance. Adaptec Easy CD Creator- For creating and copying your CDRs. Adaptec Direct CD for formatting and running your CDRWs. Installation Installation isn’t that hard and anyone could do it. If you are replacing an old IDE CDRW writer or replacing it with your old CD player, then all you have to do is! 1.Make sure in the back it is set for MASTER, usually the factory default. 2.Take out the old CD player or CDRW writer. 3.Put in the same place the new PlexWriter 8/4/32. 4.Use the same connectio
ns as on the old CD player or CDRW writer. Now if this is a new installation! 1.Make sure in the back it is set for SLAVE, since this is the second connection to the IDE cable. 2.You will need an open bay to mount your PlexWriter 8/4/32. This is sometimes the hardest part depending on what your computer case is like. 3.You will need to plug in some power to it, look for a plug that looks like the one going in your CD player or the hard drive. There is usually an extra one hanging there somewhere. If there is not a free plug, go to your Radio Shack store and get a Y plug connector so you can come off one of the ones already used. 4.You will need an IDE connection, most computers will have one from the hard drive and one from the CD or DVD-ROM. Look for the wide ribbon cable connected to them and on each one you will find about half way in the cable another connection point. It is best to connect to the cable connected to your hard drive. 5.If your CD or DVD player are connected together on the same cable, then you will have to look for an extra IDE connection on the motherboard. (Usually next to the other IDE connection) Then you will have to plug the ribbon cable into the motherboard and in the back of the PlexWriter 8/4/32. (In this case you would have to set it on MASTER) That is all to it, start it up and load the provided software. Overall I do not like the Adaptec Easy CD Creator and Adaptec Direct CD, I highly recommend getting Nero for all your copying needs. The CDRW drive is a nice unit and reliable for recording all your CDRs and CDRWs. The manual is easy to understand and the instruction are complete for this drive. This CDRW writer has been out a couple of years now and it is still a great seller, it must be a great drive! It has a full 1-year warranty including unlimited toll-free technical support I highly recommend the Plex
tor PlexWriter 8/4/32.
I just bought the Plexwriter 32/8/4 off Jungle.com, and it's unbeatavble. It is extremely reliable and fast. I never get cd errors anymore. It has a big buffer (4MB) allowing you to use the computer while burning most of the time. As for audio cds, you can't get a better drive for ripping audio from cd's. It works better then my 44x cdrom. I recommend this drive to everyone looking to purchase a good cd burner, cos I haven't produced a coaster yet with it. Great for the money to.
