Remember Beta ?, big boxy machines that weighed a tonne, video shops with 2 formats of tape just to confuse you. We bought a Sony C7 back in 1983 and paid £600 for it, nearly dropped it on the way to the car it was so heavy ! These were the fairly early years for video but the features on this machine were very good, programme search, multi event timer, remote control, tracking control, insert edit. Poorly spec'd for today's standards but at the time it was the Rolls Royce of videos. This machine went on to give 10 years of trouble free viewing, testimony to Sony's excellant build quality. It's a shame that Beta died out, the picture quality and ease of use was far better than VHS but the number of manufacturers opting for VHS squeezed it out of the market. Gone and virtually forgotten.
