Advantages: Cheap, No Contract, Soccer Saturday for free!!!!
Disadvantages: Tempremental reception on some channels, Tempremental remote control
I have recently bought a Goodmans GDB2 Digibox for freeview. Its the cheapest box currently available at arond £80.
I've been pleasantly surprised! It generally works very well, apart from a few minor hiccups that you get with sky or cable digital such as the picture freezing or the sound cutting out momentarily......jobs a gooden! Its easy to install, set up and use. And its a nifty little silver box, so it looks good!
I have a few gripes, however.... AMAZINGLY mine wont pick up ITV1, ITV2, C4 or C5???!!! (I guess I need a signal booster or to get on the roof and adjust the aerial a little bit) And sometimes it switches itself off randomly (I'm told this is the remote sending signals for no good reason). And if you havent got a scart lead socket in your tv....well, you cant have the bargain basement decoder, you'll have to fork out more! I hear that the software update will sort out these small & widely reported errors at the end of March 03.....
So, hurrah! I now have access to around 30 channels in my bedroom all through a standard rooftop aerial.....

- 18/03/03 upton66 - what more can i tell u? its the cheapest box around and its simple to install and set up! its got text and around 30 channels, and comes with a plug......
lookaroundcafe2 - to be honest i'm not sure, i'd hazard a guess that the channels you get for free on sky digital such as sky news and chart show tv are near enough the same as what you get on freeview, however i can't say for certain as i have cable digital in my living room, which is a different kettle of fish......
litef oot - admittedly, the benefits are limited, but the picture and sound quality is greatly advanced, and its likely u will find something to watch if the first 5 let u down. I'm led to believe that eventually the UK government will one day pull the plug on analogue broadcasts to free up airspace, so......... |
