Advantages: Amazing quality
Disadvantages: DOESN'T RECORD!
I don't think that anyone (not even me) could argue that the picture and sound quality on a DVD are superb. They are a reasonable price, especially if you order over the internet or shop around for good deals such as buy 2 get 1 free. The reason that a lot of people have't got the players is (price I guess) but that they can't record. My main function of a video machine is to record thing to watch at a different time. When DVDs are able to record, I think that that is the time to get it. In my opinion, a DVD player that doesn't record would be pretty useless, when they become commonly available! If you want to take my advice, don't get oe yet (maybe get one on a computer if you're thinking of getting a computer in the near future!) because soon they'll becom worthless. Anyway, that's all my opinion, and I can see that most of my friends are going to be pretty annoyed when a recorder somes out.

- 09/08/00 I know that the quality is amazing, because I watch films on my friends' players lots, but what I was saying, is that if a recordable DVD comes out (which is what I heard!) then the existing DVD players will be pretty useless. |

- 08/08/00 Sorry I have to disagree and say that the sound and picture quality are GREAT. If you haven't got one, how can you really comment on it?
From what I've read, recordable DVD's aren't going to replace VHS. More likely it will be some form of hard disc recording device which will be used, and DVDs will be kept for cinematic type viewing. |
