Minidiscs are at the moment a more mature technology then MP3 and that perhaps is why they are better. MP3's are great but don't get me wrong I think that their appeal is limited. The main problem I have with them is the fact that when you get bored of listening to the same thing in the middle of a day you have limited options as your ... Read the complete review

I recently bought a minidisk recorder, and it has proved very useful to me. I used to enjoy making up tapes from all of my favourite CD’s, but the quality was always poor, with lots of background fuzz, and I used to hate trying to find my favourite tracks through rewinding and fast-forwarding through trial and error to find the beginning. ... As many people have probably said, it is hard to say which format is better. MP3's have the advantage of downloadable songs for "try-before-you-buy" style listening (Or you can download full albums illegally and never pay for music again. Choice is yours but I don't do that) and with Mini-Discs you can carry large collections and ... Read the complete review

When you have a format that's more compatible than another then it comes out on top. I don't think you can justify the heading of this forum. Mp3 vs Minididc. One is a file format, the other is harware that uses the file format. Many people who have internet connection and a minidisc download the music and then ... Read the complete review

It must be mp3, this format is so versatile, play it on your pc, mp3 player or if you've a burner copy it into normal audio format so you can play it on any hi-fi. The selection of mp3 music is amazing, there are so many web sites to down load from. Napster has probably the biggest selection but downloads can be slow. ... Read the complete review

MP3 is LOADS better than MD for many reasons. One is that if you don't mind getting your music illegally, all your music is completely FREE OF CHARGE! Using software such as Napster, which lets you search for MP3s from other user's hard disk drives, you can find literally any song you could ever want, and then download it to your PC and ... I have been using a MiniDisc recording walkman for about two years and the one thing that comes to my mind (with regard to this debate) is the flexibility of the unit. MP3 as I understand is a hard disk recording system that relies on a computer as the recording source. Whereas my MiniDisc allows me to record items of a PC, off the television, off ... I first discovered the mini-disc through radio production, for some time it has been widely used as an alternative to DAT for broadcast quality recordings. I was very pleased to find on purchasing a portable mini-disc recorder for my radio work that it was also fab for playing toons on. Not only can you name the tracks, play them in any which ... I use both formats of music although I only have one portable unit and that is my Mini Disc player. I have no need to have both as I listen to MP3 on my computer and Mini Disc when out and about. If i want to listen to some of my MP3's when out and about, I just record them onto a Mini Disc through a lead connected to my PC's headphone ... Read the complete review

MiniDisc arrived at about the same time as DCC, Digital Compact Cassette, and both aimed to knock analogue cassette off its perch as the preferred home recording medium. DCC failed to capture much support, leaving MD as the best bet for the digital home recordist. The alternatives, DAT (Digital Audio Tape) and CD-R (recordable Compact Disc), are ... Comparing MP3's to MD is like compairing a breathing support machine to lungs; they both serve the same purpose, but aren't quite the same thing. MP3's are a non-physical file format and MD is a physical medium. MP3's are good for downloading new music (legally or illegally) to play on your computer or on a portable MP3 ... In this opinion I will try and be as unbiased as possible, which is difficult considering I own an Aiwa F-65 MiniDisc Player/Recorder - which I thing is a great bit of kit, by the way. I hate to admit it, but MP3 is going to be the future of music, should the music actual industry themselves allow it to flourish. Basically, in ... Read the complete review

There really is no contest between MP3 and MD. Minidisc is far more convenient, easier to use and better quality. Those who argue that MP3 is less damagable than MD are talking rubbish. Drop an MP3 player and a minidisc out of a top floor window and see which one survives. Chances are the MP3 player won't but the minidisc will live to record a ... Read the complete review

I have never used an MP3 player so maybe my opinion is slightly biased towards the MD player. Here are the things I like about them - smal & compact & light - battery lasts ages, all the facilities of a CD (skip to track, random play etc..). easy and cheap to record and edit. I think the blank MD is at around £1.50-1.00 so maybe ... Read the complete review

I think that both of these technologies hold a stake in the future of music development. I am not sure whether comparing them against each other is completely fair. The main aim of the minidisc as I see it is to replace the tape cassette. It can record better quality music over and over again and has all the benefits of a CD. ... Read the complete review

I really don't think that there is much to argue about on this subject. In my opinion MP3 is much better than MiniDisc for many reasons. MP3 players are much smaller and more convenient than MiniDisc. For instance, MP3 does not require you to carry any Discs around with you. Also MP3 Players are much smaller and lighter than ... If you are looking for a tiny beat box that will replace a cassette walkman, discman or radio then a minidisc is the toy you wanna look out for. A standard portable minidisc reccorder can play music recorded digitally from CD, radio, cassette or virtually any other musical source. Infact, MP3's can be played through a PC and then ... MP Players have been getting alot of attention because you can download it from the internet.
