Advantages: Could save loads on your mobile phone bill, Easy to use site
Disadvantages: None I can think of
It may pay you to change networks. I have found a website that takes the hard work out of trawling through the plethra of tarriffs which you need to examine carefully before you buy. Go to moneysupermarket.co.uk (an excellent website where you can save money on a whole array of things) and click on mobile phones from the menu on the left. You are now into the calculator. You need to enter: Minutes used per day/month Type of calls (eg peak, off peak, both) Do you use text messages, WAP? Preferred provider (best to let it search for the best deal) Itemised billing required? Call profile - you can either leave this and use the profile of industry averages or it's probably best to go in and amend to your own profile. After you done that you are given a range of deals (calls and monthly rental included) and how much your phone will cost you based on the profile you have given. You can get more details on each tarriff or even go straight to the operator's website to buy. I have been using Orange for years now but I am now quite a light user so I found that my bill would probably only be around £6 per month on pay as you go as opposed to £18 with monthly rental fees and 60 minutes worth of free calls which I was using for the sake of using them. Of course there are a few things you need to consider before reaching a decision: 1. Not all phones work on every network so if you want to keep your handset you may find that you are restricted by choice. 2. Check the network's coverage. Most operators have a website where you can type in your postcode or ask at any mobile phone shop. If you are outside towns and cities you are most likely to suffer weak reception. 3. Also think about the people you call most - you friends and family. Find out what networks they belong to. Cals and text messages to people on your own network are cheaper than those to competitors so
it may pay to stay with what they have. 4. The more expensive tarriffs usually offer plenty of free calls per month which are good value if used up but remember you are paying MORE for these calls in the rental. I think this is a great site and makes you think your phone and how much you could save. As a result of using this I have now changed to Pay As You Go tarriff with Orange. It was easy to change and I didn't have to change my phone number. So check out the site and see how much you could save!
