Mobile phones - you either love em or hate them. Yes they are very handy in emergencies and they are great when you cannot use the phone booth because its been vandalised, but to have one stuck on your ear - I don't think so.

Everywhere you go children as young as 10 have one, half the time they are talking to their friends - friends they have probably only left 10 minutes before, but they cannot resist ringing them as they walk a 100 metres up the road.

When I brought one they were pounds 69 now eveyone wants one they are 49 pounds and the new thing is introduce a friend and you can get one free - I suppose one in each ear!!

But come on you idiots who are driving when they are also on the phone, what should you concentrate on the driving where you might kill someone or a joke on the phone with a friend, probably an old joke at that!! If you have to have the phone stuck to your ear and you have to drive with one hand what about investing in a 'Hands Free' for everyones sake. When I am driving along and I see someone the phone if it wasn't for the fact that I might make them jump when I toot the horn I would but I may cause an accident so I do not. Pull into the kerbside and make your phone calls safely. Then everyone can be safe.

For all the drivers who insist on using the phone in the car try this little exercise, stand in front of the mirror put your phone up to your ear take a good look in the mirror and just think of these words 'my stupidity make cost a life'

I use my phone when driving. however i dont phone other people. I drive alot each day and so always have my phone on the passenger seat recharging. If im cruising down the motorway and it rings I will answer it and tell whoever it is i am driving and will call them back. If im driving somewhere which involves changnig gear then i dont answer, end of story, my phone calls while driving last a maximum of thirty seconds. Personally from the way many people drive without phones i think teaching people that staying alert at all times while driving is more important than generalising all mobile phone users as unsafe drivers, when i answer my phone it is no more distracting than drinking, eating, smoking a cigarette, or turning around to tell the kids to behave in the backseat (things which alsmost all people have donw while driving)...less so in many cases.
I do have a problem with people who having had a handsfree kit fitted into their car think it is ok to drive along having a conversation or even bending down to dial a number....I even know of someone who sends text messages while driving...this is much worse than driving for a few seconds with a phone to your ear as you are not even watching the road.
