Advantages: Good quality, easy to use

Disadvantages: Newer models come out all the time.

The Mini Disc has been around for a few years now, and is growing more popular. I have one of the earlier MD players (MZ-R35), and it’s just as good as the latest models that are around today. It’s small, not too heavy and has good output. I always seem to end up buying Sony equipment usually because it’s good quality, doesn’t break (usually) and not overly expensive.

The battery life on the Sony players are extremely good, it lasts for hours, and the included battery pack makes it go even further. The output is very good, crisp and clear, even at stupidly high volumes the player copes well. Compared to some of the Sharp models, the players read the TOC very quickly when a new disc is inserted. It only takes a few seconds to play from a cold start.

They record very well, but this can take it out of the battery, so use the mains adapter if you’re going to record a whole CD. The included digital cable with the players makes recording your CDs quick, easy and excellent quality. The players have many features, Mega Bass, AVLS (hardly ever used) and syncro recording when using the digital cable. Track marks are recorded automatically making digital recording a breeze.
