When my partner offered to buy me a DVD player for my birthday in Novemeber I started to think about what I needed from a player. It had to be multi-region as I had bought some cheap DVD's in asia during our holiday. The ability to play all types of disc was also important because I wanted to play VCD's and MP3. One other important factor was a built in Dolby decoder as my tv had surround sound built in. With this criteria in mind I set out to find a DVD player that would would fit the bill at a good price. After much internet searching I came across the Haus 615-L-S unit, which was supplied by Jungle.com for £129.00
Even though I had never heard of this manufacturer, after checking the numerous reviews on Jungle, I decided to go with this model.
I placed the order for the unit, which was indicated as being in stock, and eagerly awaited its delivery. After ten days player had not arrived, so I called Jungle to find out what was happening. This is were my delivery nightmare began! After numerous phone calls, emails, and faxes, I had been unable to get a clear answer to when the unit could be delivered. After several days a representative from Jungle called me so say the player would be delivered to my workplace address within the next 2 days. This was not to be, as they had despatched the unit to my home address (with no one at home)by mistake. Anyway to cut a long story short I eventually got my DVD player.
The unit came with clear set-up instructions for each type of sound option i.e. 5.1ch surround or bog standard 2ch analog audio. A scart lead was not supplied, but I already had one on my video, so I borrowed that one. However it was supplied with a VIDEO OUT cable.
Once the player was connected and up and running I inserted my first DVD. As expected the picture was crisp and the sound superb.
The remote control unit (supplied with batteries)is slightly larger than some (200mm x 60mm), but the buttons are not
too close together and the operation intuative. The player itself can be purchased in either silver or black and is slim and minimalistic, with very few buttons on the facia...I like it.
The player is not supplied multi-region, but I obtained the hack, which is detailed below.
1.At Logo screen, press [STOP] key.
2.Input the digit number in the sequence [2,3,1,7]
3.Then input the region area to the table below:
 - ALL AREA
 - USA/CAN etc
 - UK/JAPAN etc
 - HK/TWN etc
 - BRA/AUS etc
 - RUS/PAK etc
 - CHINA
4.Power off the DVD player
5.New region code settings will be activated when the DVD is powered on again.
This model can play Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, Video CD and of course DVD. Built in decoders for Dolby digital 5.1ch and DTS sound give you all you will need for that cinematic experience.
The only problem I have experienced over the last month is that several MP3 disks I had been given were not recognised. However all the MP3 CD's have have created myself on CD-RW have functioned normally, displaying an explorer type menu screen.
Overhall I am very pleased with the unit which I still think has a good specification for a remarkeldy low price. The delivery situation I have been told since was due to a system change-over, so should be better now. For futher opinions check out the Jungle.com site reviews for this player.
Definetely worth considering!
