I have had this product for almost a year now and am very happy with it so far. The Panasonic RV 31 is a classy and quality purchase for an entry level product and in these days in which entry level means downsized quality you will feel rewarded to have purchased so much for the price tag it carries. The UK version can play MP3s CDs, music CDs and VCDs perfectly well. SVCDs do not play well in it unless you put it to play in the first level of fast forward as it seems that SVCDs play one level slower than they should. Not understanding what I am saying above? So let us say that the Panasonic RV 31 plays your CDs your friends' dodgy MP3 cds and Video CDs as well as it plays DVDs. INSTALLATION AND MANUAL: Clear and does cover all the possibilites (VCR, set top box already installed on TV, etc...). Installation is quite straight forward, plug the s-cart leads and there you are! LOOK AND FEEL: Mine is black as a horse, beautifully designed and light. Easy to reach buttons in the front panel even at dark (or is it my psychic powers?) CONTROL: Remote control is really easy to use although a lock button would be great for those occasions you sit on it by accident. SOUND AND IMAGE: Top notch, of course the TV will play a lot in the performance of sound and video but only consider I plugged my DVD player into a Goodman's widescreen TV and it sounds like a Philips! Also, s-cart leads do influence the quality of image and sound. KNOWN PROBLEMS: Pixelation. I have read many other reviews quoting the DVD player after a year or so degrades images or becomes unplayable because of pixelated picture or black and white colour playback only. I have had this problem but this was due to loose s-cart leads and it was solved easily by just re-inserting the s-cart leads into the back of TV and DVD player. This I see not as a problem of the player but a problem of the archite
cture of the S-Cart lead cables and connections after a year they go a little loose. VERDICT: Great appliance and can be found all over the internet for much cheaper than Dixon's or Curry's. The known problems seem to be only a question of loose connections asking for a little pressure. If you decide to play with your own videos and produce Video/Photo CDs you can play them on your TV! Be aware that the RV31 and RV30 models are different.
