Offering a little more than your standard 35mm compact zoom this camera has a zoom range of 28mm to 70mm and is of a more solid construction than Canon's old discontinued 70 zoom. It has a fully automatic mode and various user modes including a sports setting which sets a faster shutter speed in order to freeze the action, a portrait mode, a close up/macro mode and a spot metering mode. Clever use of the various modes does help to provide a better result and the lens is of a good quality. Reassuringly solid and well engineered this is an excellent alternative to carting around a bulky SLR on walks, etc and the various user modes give the keen amateur a chance to use his knowledge of photography to his advantage.
