Advantages: Great selection

Disadvantages: The lids do get very hot

I received a set of Tefal saucepans as a moving in present from my best friend and having been using them regularly for a few months now so thought I should write up what I thought of them.

The set we have is the Tefal Elegance Stainless Steel 5 piece set (Argos are currently doing this set for £49.99). In the set you get a 16, 18, 20cm saucepan with glass lid, 24cm frying pan and 14cm milkpan. They are all stainless steel and have an "impact bonded base".

There should be a saucepan here to suit every need you have. They are great and the milkpan even has little indentation on the inside giving you measurement markings, I haven't needed to use this as I normally pour liquids into a jug before putting into a saucepan but I can see this as a helpful feature for someone.

There are a couple of downsides to these firstly the frying pan isn't non-stick so you do need to make sure you have plenty of oil etc. in the bottom to try and avoid food stuffs sticking to the bottom of it. However, don't be too put off by this as I have found with some fairy and elbow grease the burnt stuff does come off though how burnt it would have to be before this happen I'm not sure.

The sauacepands do clean the same as any others but I have noticed that the "stainless steel" has marked slightly and isn't as bright and shiny as it was when we first got these. But I'm not too bothered by this as at least it shows we use them and there not dirty just not bright and shiny anymore.

The only issue I have really is with the glass lids. They fit 4 out of the 5 saucepans as obviously the milkpan doesn't come fitted with one and they have a small steam hole in the top and a metal handle to be able to lift the lid on and off. Its this metal handle I have an issue with, it does get very hot and I have to remember to get a cloth or oven glove first before taking it off the pan. I understand that this is not going to be stone cold the whole time that you are using the pans but I have used other pans before with glass and metal lids where the handles don't get as hot as this.

Having said all this I think these saucepans are good value for money and I'm sure they can be found elsewhere for less than the £49.99 that Argos are selling them for. There are also similar style pan sets by other manufacturers but the thing I like about these are that they are Tefal and seem very good quality and don't feel like they are going to break or fall apart in 5 minutes like you find with some cheaper alternatives.

I would buy a set of these myself all I need to remember is the cloth for lids or just to cook without using the lids on the saucepans. There are more expensive sets out there and Tefal do do set which are non-stick rather than stainless steel for a little bit more money which might be worth the investment but for something which does carry the Tefal brand name they are great.

All I can say to my best friend for getting me these is thank you.

Summary: Good introduction set of pans
