Advantages: cheap calls, looks cool on your phone "Virgin"

Disadvantages: check the service in your area.

I moved to Virgin by buying a sim card which costs £12.50 including £10 of airtime, so thats a good start. Although the service is 50% owned by One 2 One I have found Virgin to be better all round. You have all the benefits of a contract but with all the benefits of a Pre-Pay package. You can have E-mail to and from your phone using your standard Pop3 account that you use with your ISP, the email service costs just £10 per year with each E-mail sent costing the same as a standard text message (10 pence). Calls are a very cheap at 15ppm for the first 5 mins then it drops to 5ppm for the rest of the day, Virgin even send you a text message to alert you when the calls have dropped in price (nice touch). All the standard services are included and there are even some that you may not expect i.e. listen to the radio!

Where Virgin really shine is there customer support, its superb. E-mails are answered promptly and with the information you require and if a call is made to "The Team" they always seem to enjoy what they are doing and try their hardest to solve any problems fast.

libertybell, I mentioned right at the beginning that I also use VirginMobile; I was merely elaborating (not ranting) on the mention by bluetack on the cost of the VirginMobile e-mail service.

I'm no BT fan either but its excellent Genie website is available to users of any mobile phone network and there is no charge to send text or e-mail messages.

I would have thought that would be of interest to those who are not aware of the advantages of using this particular website.

However, if you are content to carry on paying 10p or 12p for individual text messages then that is entirely your perogative.

Just come back to this particular subject. I was, of course, referring to sending text or e-mail messages to other mobile phones. Using Genie's website to do so means it doesn't cost me anything to send a message as my internet access is unmetered.

It 9;s obviously quicker to send a text or e-mail message from your computer if you are using it rather than a mobile. The networks charge for sending messages, only the recipient normally gets them free.

I'm not BT's biggest fan either, which is why I switched to World Online, but the Genie website is rather good I feel and open to all network users. That can't be all bad!

Stuartli - I think you have lost it - this Virgin not Genie - please rant in the right subject area. Don't personally trust BT.

Bluetack - nice one.
