This is quite simply, an absolutely fantastic game!
I had the other version, for the Nintendo 64, and I enjoyed it immensely, so I thought I would buy this one for the Gamecube and give it a try. I was delighted that I did!
This game can be played as a one or a two player, or three, or four, and all are fun! (The only thing is, with four players, it is hard to follow yours on the screen!)
There are different characters and different boards to snowboard with, there are different forms of game too. My personal favourite is the snowboard courses. Once you have completed a level, you can unlock the next level, which is exciting.
The graphics are good and the design of the courses is good enough to challenge even good players who have practised a lot!
I thought that the music was ok but it would be my one qualm with the game.
Sports game come in all shapes and sizes and it would appear styles. As the latest Gamecube game to have a go at sports is 1080 Avalanche. The 1080 series originated on the N64 and I remember it was one of the first games to go to budget price, I liked it back then although it didn't have the best look. This is the newer version of this snowboarding classic so lets see how it shapes up:
Graphics - The snow looks awesome, I know it's just white but the tracks you leave and dents in the snow look really realistic and the skies are also very good looking. You'll enjoy the visuals of this game as the scenery is really awesome.
Gameplay - Much like an ice hockey game, you glide as opposed to race in this, the smoothness of the game is the key here as the analouge stick really makes you feel like you're in the game
Sound - Punky tracks ahoy as the type of music you see on The Extreme Sports channel pounds the 1080 airwaves and fit the scene very well.
Overall - This is just fun personified. Not too much thinking involved, just shove it on and suit yourself, very fun game and the multiplayer mode is good too.
1080¦: Avalanche brings its unique tradition of authentic 3-D snowboarding action to NINTENDO GAMECUBE. Game play satisfaction snowballs as players master snowboarding physics and an all-new trick system. Favorite boarders, such as the well-balanced Kensuke, the technical master Rob or the incredibly fast Dion, charge jumps, grab huge air and complete twisted combos. Watch out though, a potentially impressive stunt could lead to a board-breaking disaster.
