Ballistic is a fantastic puzzle game that I have played regularly on my Playstation and the biggest compliment I can give to it is that I found it as enjoyable and addictive as Tetris which as we all know was extremely successful.
The idea for this game is very simple which is a bonus so you don't get too bogged down with complicated rules and confusing gameplay. The aim of the game is to remove the balls on the screen by shooting them and matching three or more coloured balls in a row. This alone is not enough to make a game addictive or to hold your attention span for too long. What actually makes this game addictive is that there is strategy involved in this game and the way you play it. You would think that by removing as many balls as possible in the fastest space of time would be the best way to play this game. Although, that is not true to be honest with you. If you want to ultimately get a high score then it's probably best to gather the balls as when you remove them more chain reactions will take place and give you a higher score.
The game is quite hard to master and is pretty challenging which is good. Also, I doubt whether you will get bored of this as is quite interesting. Once you get into this game and if you like puzzle type games then you will love this too as I did.
Sticking with the Puzzle game feel , I dug out my copy of Ballistic and gave it a whirl after all those years. This is an odd type of game, it's like a 3d version of Arkanoid where you use your balls (ooh err) to blast other balls of a similar colour to eliminate them from the puzzle, like any other puzzle game the game increases in speed and difficulty the further you get into the game.
Graphics - Hmm, it's just coloured balls, if the look of snooker impresses you , you'll be flabbergasted but theres really nothing much to see here, animations are all smooth though. 5 out of 10
Gameplay - As theres not a lot of manouvering in this game you'll find yourself just pressing X a lot, but still once you get the hang of it it can be pretty fun. 6 out of 10
Sound - Annoying, the noise when elminating balls sounds like the old electronic Battleship game , i'd say turn it off. 3 out of 10
Longevity - If you're good at it , it's reasonably addictive, once you are a few levels in though it just gets outrageously difficult which put me off sticking with it. 4 out of 10
Overall - It's an interesting take on a puzzle game that I hadn't seen in 3d before, it's worth a go althoguh you'd need to be persistant to get that good at it. 6 out of 10
