"Batman: Chaos in Gotham" is based on the television series of a similar name. In it, the player guides the original Bruce Wayne Batman through the streets of Gotham in attempts to deal with a recent breakout of evil henchmen from the local asylum. Batman notices something wrong when discovering snow and ice during the summer season and begins his quest to reveal the mystery behind it.
Like similar Batman titles for the Gameboy console, "Chaos in Gotham" is a side scrolling adventure game. There is also elements of platform gameplay as Batman will find himself frequently jumping, climbing barricades and using floating clouds of ice to transport himself towards the end of the stage. Gameplay revolves heavily around fighting and eliminating the various henchmen which have freed themselves from imprisonment. Controls are common to the genre but do feature somewhat of a reversal to other Batman titles; Arrows control movement, "A" makes use of the attack function and "B" causes Batman to jump.
The graphics for this title are bright and appropriately coloured. I also found the various animations, such as Batman's attack, to be very smooth and "flowing" in a way. Batman's cape also reacts to the characters movement, for example during the fall of a jump it will blow upwards as if there was wind catching it below. The detailing was slightly poor but I could distinguish clearly between the various enemies and hazards.
There is nothing particularly memorable about the audio in this game. One flaw I found about this section is that there are no audio cues as to when Batman is being attacked; The player could demise silently and be none the wiser. There is a slight "pow" noise with each strike made against an opponent but nothing similar to reflect damage that Batman incurs.
I somewhat enjoy this title and would be able to consider recommending it for purchase. There is some challenge to be met in this game and it does provide minor amusement for fans of the "Batman" series. Replay value, however, could be minimal.
Batman returns to once again wage war on the criminals in Gotham City. The most dangerous villains of the city have broken out of Arkham Asylum and are again wreaking their individual brands of havoc. As always and this goes for all the other super hero games, the police find catching the baddies impossible. Batman must track each and every one down and return them to their home in Arkham. In this game Batmn is joined by Robin, Batgirl and Nightwing. However Batgirl is the only other player that your able to play in this game. Also in this game are Commissioner Gordon, Rene Montoya, Harvey Bullock and the butler of course. The baddies consist of Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, Roxy Rocket, The Penguin, Bane and also the Joker. There is even a mystery villian that is only revealed at the end levels. As always there are the usual nobodys during the rounds you have to fight with. You have to think do these guys even think they have a chance of battering you or killing you? A nice little punch will simply get rid of them. Or if you want to be fancy there a number of moves that Batman is able to do. You are also equipped with batarangs, grappling hook, and stun bombs on your bat belt. In some rounds you will be on the batcycle, batmobile, jet wing and also in the bat boat. He really does have it all doesnt he? Anyway in these rounds you usaully just have to avoid the enemies when going through them so thats easy enough too. Overall quite a good little game. The graphics are really good when it comes to the characters but are disapointing for the round looks. As you might not even be able to see a ledge as its bad graphics. The music is excellent though with so many tunes and sound effects in the game. The gameplay is great too as with so many rounds and boss`s this should last a while.
