Advantages: Soooooo addictive
Disadvantages: Can be hard to start with
I remember when Chu Chu Rocket was first launched here, I saw a clip of it on Bits on C4 and my one thought was "thats far too fast to play"
Anyway I recently got a Dreamcast and of course it came with the obligatory free copy of Chu Chu Rocket. After a while playing my other games I popped it in to see what it was like, that was 4 days ago and I've done very little since !
This game is maddeningly addictive, it has that Tetris style "one ,ore go" feel to it.
For those who wonder what Im on about heres the plot, you have to guide Chu Chu's (hereby known as mice) into escape rockets and away from Kapu Kapu's (hereby known as cats) You can change the direction of either mice or cats with directional arrows. Easy enough ? Well it would be if there were't up to 300 mice and 8 Cats on screen at any time, moving at breakneck speeds.
The game has several very different modes, the puzzle mode allows you to view the scenario and place arrows before the start, and then you have to see if you got it right, It sounds like a small distraction from the main game but in fact it is a massive challenge and great addition, the bonus fact is the ability to download new puzzles from the SEGA site to the Dreamcast, allowing infinite puzzles, and of course you can make your own, and upload them for others to enjoy.
The main game is where the madness kicks in. You go up against 3 other friends or DC controlled entities, and try to get as many mice into your rocket as possible, whilst keeping the cats away. Its immensely fast, and the firsyt few goes can be very offputting as it seems impossible to do, but after a tie it all starts to seem clear and you find yourself simultaneously dumoping cats into opponents rockets and stealing the mice away.
It lasts for ages, and is a crackingly addictive game. Best of all its free with a DC, or from the website if you already have a DC. Get it now !!!!!
