I borrowed Cool Boarders 2 to play on my playstation from a friend a while back now and found it very addictive and a fantastic game to play. It simulates the extreme sport of snow boarding and to my knowledge there are not too many of these games around or at least weren't anyway when this was released. The game is action packed and high speed.
There are several modes which this game can be played in. They are: Tour Competition mode, Freestyle, Half pipe, Big Air, Board Park and Board Edit.
For Tour Competition if you win first in the first three tracks then the rest of the nine tracks are unlocked to compete in. There are four characters to choose from. Each player has their own strengths and weaknesses and different attributes. Some are good at doing tricks and some have speed. You can also customise the outfits they wear. Once you choose a character there are 18 boards to choose from each with different specifications.
Before each track is raced there is a 'Big Air' contest where all competitors do tricks that tiven points value to determine what place they start at in the race.
The contols of the game are not too hard to learn but mastering some of the moves and tricks is a little harder and time consuming. I must admit if I'm honest that it takes a lot of effort and time to learn the tracks.
The Freestyle mode is basically a time trial mode where you can practice on different courses and see the fastest time you can go. This mode is a great way to practice courses. A memory card is very handy about now when you start accumulating scores. You can even play 2 player time trial competitions too!
Next, Halfpipe is a course where you compete using overall trick skills. I never really got into this part of the game as it's not that interesting.
My favorite option in the whole game is Big Air. It's a contest where the game prompts you to do a trick, and you do it! You learn how to do a lot of tricks in this aspect of the game.
In the Board Edit section, you can create and design your own board! This is a very nice feature to have in the game.
Overall, I think this game is a great game that is well worth buying. It has great replay value and enough options to make things interesting. There is also enough variety in tracks and characters and the graphics are great.
Cool boarders two is quite an old game now, but it still seems to of retained some of its magic that put it ahead of other snowboarding games. It is howevr, an old game and you can tell. The graphics are glitchy as hell, and there are continuous white lines flickering across te screen when speeding down a mountain. The graphics apart from this are only average, a bit squared off and not too realistic. The gameplay though is good. It would be easy for a first timer to just pick up a controller and go for it, maybe even pull off a trick as the tricks are only a combination of the directional buttons and the shoulder buttons. The steering is easy and if you go too wide on a corner, a simple tap of the square button will sharpley turn you into the right direction. There is enough gameplay to keep even the most avid gameplayer going, with options such as Competition, Halfpipe, Big Air and Boarders park. There is also a few boarders to pick from, and more come unlocked as you progress through the game. The tracks on each of the 3 mountains are quite tricky and it will take time and patience to accomplish them. The halfpipe is also tricky to master. You are judged on things such as speed, height, rotation, landing and grabs and it requires some good combos to get good scores in all of these. Though it may look impressive and get good scores with tricks, randomly pressing buttons can result in low scores as well, because unless you let go of the buttons in good time then you will not land well and will lose points for the trick as well. For those who have the game but don't know how to spin, simply hold down X amd push left or right. Let go of X at the jump but keep your finger on the direction. Combine this with a grab and you should get a few points. Do the same for a flip, but just press the up and down buttons.
This is a classic game of its time, much better than all the other rival snowboarding games out there. It may be a little dated now but the gameplay is still excellent. More fun is to be had in two player mode. Simple controls, and although the tricks are hard to master to start with, with a little bit of practice you can become a master in no time at all. An excellent budget snowboarding game. Go out and buy it!
Cool boarders 2 cheats for playstation to help yoo with this great snow boarding game hopefully Wicked air cheat: On the start menu, go to the Board Park, and go all the way to the end where the trucks and the ramps are. When you come to the second semi truck, there should be a ramp leading up to it. If you go past it, and turn around and build up speed to go over it backwards, you can hold the jump button (X) down and jump it at almost vertical height. If you hit it right, you can even go into space. - yeah right (Ed.) The cheats I saw on the previous page, for how to get the alien, (His name is Gray) all you have to do is get 38.5 points on half pipe. It's alot easier to get Gray with this cheat then with the other cheat. Remember if you can't win then cheat!!! Hope I could help!!!
Ok, so this games seen better days, it's getting a bit outdated as it's been out quite a while. However don't be put of by this fact. This game has some great levels to find your way through and some great features included. There are many different areas to the game, you can race, compete for points doing tricks or just spend some time messing about in the practice area. There are alot of tricks to get the hang of but a section of the game will take you through some tricks saying what buttons you press and telling you the names. From then on you just put them together in whatever combination you want. Overall I would say that the controls are quite simple. There are some nice finishing touches to the game such as the ability to design your own board or choose the clothes that your character wears. As the game has so many different areas such as the challenge whichs involves racing and tricks during which you win new levels and new characters it is very playable and doesn't wear out quickly. It also has a great multiplayer which presents plenty of opportunity for friendly rivalry between friends. I would say this game is suitable for all ages and everyone should give it a go. I have played cool boarders three and I personally prefered this one.
