5/5 for the best crash bandicoot game yet

Crash bandicoot has lived on for another game after crash bandicoot and Neo cortex strikes back (number 2) Me and my friends bought 1-3 on the play station network and we are determined to finish them all, now we can say we have. The story line remains the same which is defeat Neo Cortex and his army of enemies by working your way through the levels. We see a lot of new characters have been introduced into this game such as dingo, tiny and even coco has quite a few levels of her own. You will see a lot of the characters seen in this game are also the ones of crash team racing. The aim of this game is to work your way through the levels as either crash or coco this time collecting boxes, apples and gems and on the way defeat all his new evil recruits.

You start off in the warp room, this is just where the levels are on display and you can see and choose one, you start off with 1-2 numbered buttons on the floor, you can play any of these in any order right from the start, as long as you complete the level it doesn't matter. The first set of levels are on a wide castle wall and is very medieval and quite like a fairytale. You start off as Crash bandicoot and collect all the apples and boxes and along the way you have to fight wizards, guards with swinging sword, goats and the funniest one is a frog, if you don't manage to spin it away or jump over it, it will jump on you kiss you and turn itself into a prince which is funny but this does count as you've lost a life. Within the first set of levels you also have to play as coco and one is where to have to ride the tiger around the castle wall getting all boxes and missing all the barrels, guards and other enemies. Other levels also feature dinosaurs chasing you where you have to run towards the screen, jet ski levels and more. After you have completed these 5 levels there is the boss to beat before you can move onto the next 5 levels.

Each set of levels has it's own theme, the next 5 levels are in what looks like the middle east and you have to beat people which swords monies, people holding barrels, scorpions and magic carpet men. There are certain gems and keys you will need to collect one each level and they show you which ones you will get if you have managed to do what was required, for completing the level you get a purple glowing crystal, if you collect all boxes you will get a silver gem, in the first game to get the silver gem you couldn't die and had to get all the boxes, naughty dog (the creatures) must of realised in the end that this is too hard to do so in this game you just have to get all the boxes it doesn't matter if you die, the bonus level boxes, tnt and nitrus are all included in this so you must make sure you blow everything up. Once you have completed the level you can go back on it and do what is called a time trial, this will get rid of all the apples and replace some boxes with yellow ones which say either 1 2 or 3. These stop the clock for that amount of seconds, You can collect the mask boxes so if you get 3 of course you run even faster through it, there are set times for the normal key and the gold key, if you get any running masks and hit every yellow box to stop the clock you are looking at getting the gold key every time.

With Crash bandicoot warped you can really tell a lot of effort has gone into this one more so than the others which were good of course but this game is brilliant. As technology has gotten better so has the Crash bandicoot graphics and music, the music is roughly still the same but has a better tempo and is more upbeat with extra notes in it but is still the same tunes as the first games. The graphics have improved massively from what they was although last night playing a time trial level I did fall through a wall for no reason when you should be able to, so there is still room for improvement which by now of course has been done.

The game and level itself is really easy when you think about it, but there are that many enemies to defeat and so many weird shaped holes to miss that we miss judge it and it actually turns out to be a hard game to complete in full. The game is very simplistic but this makes it harder which I think is really clever. You can tell a lot of effort has been put into this because you can do several things one each level and they have created hidden moves which you can unlock every time you beat a boss such as triple spin and double jump, and when fighting evil enemies the triple spin really comes in handy.

This along with all the crash games is a great family game that everyone can master with a little bit of time and you can play it over and over again, we only had to look at a walk through on youtube once so it really isn't that hard for people to play but we're gamer geeks and need to get all the achievements. You can play this on ps3 so there isn't an excuse not to own this game in some way or another.

A fun platform game that stands the test of time

This game was one of my favourite platform games back in the day. A simple context, you are a Bandicoot named Crash who must go through 25 levels collecting the pink crystals in order to stop the evil baddie Cortex getting them and, well I've forgotten what he actually wants to do with them but it's something along the lines of destroy the world, that sort of thing.

There are 25 main levels in the game and 5 beat the baddie levels in between. One great thing about this game is there is variety in the levels, for example one level you are swimming through the sea looking for the crystal, then you are racing across the Great Wall of China on a tiger and the next you are being chased by a massive dinosaur.

This is a great old skool platform game as long as you remember that it is that, old skool. It has obviously aged a bit so the graphics are also aged, but the gameplay is still great and it remains a fun game to play.

          Disadvantages

An amazing the best platformer on the playstation!

This is easily in the top 10 platformers of all time. This game is the third game in the series and in my opinion is drawn best with crash bandicoot 2 cortex strikes back for the best platforming game in the series.

The game starts when an evil mask named uka uka is freed when a metal object crashes onto earth. Uka uka is released and it is later revealed that he is aku aku's twin brother. Uka uka teams up with cortex and they attempt to gather all 25 crystals throughout time using a time machine that is created and maintained by Dr N. Tropy.

Your job as crash is to obtain all 25 crystals before cortex does. There are 30 levels in the game. 25 are visible and there are also 5 hidden levels later unlocked. Unlike most platforming games the levels in this are varied in type. Most levels are platforming though there are 2 levels where you ride pura a baby tiger down the top of a wall. 3 levels where you drive a motrobike and have to finish first to obtain a crystal and 2 levels where you fly a plane and have to shoot down all enemy zeppelins to obtain the crystal.

The game had excellent graphics for its time and a solid gameplay. Once you have completed 5 levels in a warp room you have to fight the boss. The bosses are:

Tiny Tiger - you fight him in a roman colleseum he has a trident that he jumps at you with

Dingo Dile - He is in an ice cave in the ice age and is armed with a flamethrower

Dr N. Tropy - you fight him in the machineary of the time machine (or maybe a giant clock in some randomers house) He has a tuning fork which he uses to fire energy waves and pulses at you.

          N. Gin - You fight him in space playing as coco in a spaceship. This is my favorite boss. He is armed with rocket launchers and lasers. Once you have defeated him pura appears in another space ship that joins onto the back of yours and makes your laser more powerfull just as N. Gin reapears in a more powerfull spaceship.

Cortex - He plants mines in the ground that explode in a chain after a certain amount of time. You have to dodge the mines and then when the explosions have cleared stand where the mines have already exploded. Then when a mine the last mine he has planted blows up it hits him then you run and hit him. Sounds simple? well you have to do it 3 times and all the while dodging aku aku and uka uka who are fighting in the small area. Also the attacks aku aku and uka uka fire change every time you hit cortex making the first time you face him an exciting and upredictable one.

Aside from obtaining crystals there are also gems on levels. The gems are obtained by collecting every box in a stage including bonus area boxes. Some levels have 2 gems. These are levels with secret colour gem paths which to unlock you have to get the coloured gem of that colour. To unlock colour gems you have to ride a platform with a skull and cross bones symbol on it. This platforms dissapear if you have died at any point in the level. This takes you to another part of the level that is considerably harder but upon completion grants you a coloured gem.

Now for crash's moves. He starts with very basic jump, spin and body slam attacks. The body slam is almost useless. After defeating a boss crash unlocks a power. Tiny unlocks power slam. Which upgrades the body slam and makes it have a larger area effect and grants it the ability to open strong crates. Dingo Dile unlocks double jump allowing you to jump again in mid air. N. Tropy unlocks super spin which allows you to spin constantly for around 8 seconds when repeatedly tapping the square button. This also makes you hover in mid air. N. Gin unlocks my favorite move. The bazooka. By holding L2 crash pulls a rocket launcher out of thin air. This allows you to aim and kill enemys before they even react to you though you have to stand still while firing thus making it impracticle on certain levels especially ones with conveyor belts. The last boss unlocks the Crash Dash move which allows you to run at great speeds and is mainly to help with relic challenges.

In relic challenges the goal is to finish the level in the minimum amount of time all the while picking up freeze crates. These yellow freeze crates delay the timer buy the number of seconds the big red number on the front of it says. Ranging from 1 to 3. There are saphire and gold relic times saphire easier then gold and gold with harder times to beat. Also there are hidden platinum relics that quite a few people don't think are in the game. To obtain these relics you have to collect every freeze crate on the level and finish in an extremley fast time. For example the first level toad village is.

          1:03:00 for saphire
          0:57:53 for gold
          0:44:06 for platinum

There is also another insentive for collecting relics other then completing the game. There are 5 hidden levels in a hidden warp room that is unlocked upon obtaining 5 relics of any type. The black circle next to the save point magically sprouts a platform which you can take to the secret warp room. There is also another extra 2 secret levels which require you to perfrom certain tasks on 2 levels to unlock a level. On the motorbike level road crash you must hit a sign with an alien symbol on it at the side of the track to unlock the level hot coco a jet ski'ing level. The other level is called eggipus rex and is unlocked on the dinomight level by being captured by a certain pterodactyl. Both of these levels have relics.

Once you have collected all gems and 30 relics(of any grade) fight cortex again and beat him to get the final ending. Also talking to coco next to the save point after collecting all 30 gold relics gives you a secret fireworks show.

All round this is a great game with great gamplay and graphcis for its time and will always hold a special place in my heart as the first game I ever played.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          A classic

As has been voiced by may others, this game was the third and last of the good, well-made and entertaining Crash Bandicoot games. Though the series has continued, this has involved a change of platform (to ps2) and the sequels never quite lived up to the first three.

In this game your aim is to progress through levels collecting a crystal for each level, fighting a boos each level until you have completed 25 levels at which point you fight the final boss. However this is only the main part of the game and there are other crystals which can be gained on each level (for collecting all the boxes (pickups) for example).

This outing of Crash Bandicoot has quite a lot of variation, for example some levels involve you flying in a plane and are not linear in that sense. There are another two additions which make this version particularly good. Firstly the developers have introduced new things such as a bazooka and fast feet. Fast feet may seem pointless but they lead into the second addition which is that of time trials. In these you just have to complete a level in a specified time.

Though there isn't a two player mode, the time trials partly make up for this because they can become very competitive.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

The third installment in the Crash franchise

I don't review games often so I apologise if this is not appropriate.

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped is part of the multi million selling platform game franchise revolving around the titular character. This third installment released in 1998 was the last of the series to be released on the original Playstation and in my opinion the last of the games to be interesting and not repetitive.

It follows on from the previous game Cortex Strikes Back and is the most challenging and interesting game of the first three.

The game focuses on antagonist Dr Neo Cortex having been defeated by Crash at the end of the last game and crash landing into some anceint ruins where he unleashes Uka Uka, the evil twin brother of Crash's protector mask Aku Aku. Together Uka Uka and Cortex join forces with Nefarious Tropy who uses his Time Twisting Machine to try and gather the power crystals. [Those pink crystals you had to collect during the second game].
Crash and his younger sister Coco, upon learning of their plan also heads to the time twister and attempts to stop them.

The game allows you to play as Coco for the first time. Though this bonus isn't that brilliant as you don't actually get to move around with her as the levels she appears in are either on a tiger [similar to the polar bear Crash rode in the previous game] or an aeroplane. However her levels are quite difficult especially the aeroplane themed ones and she has possibly the most difficult boss in the game in the form of Cortex's right hand man N. Gin.

In order to progress through the game, you need to collect the pink power crystals in every level. There are five levels open when you first begin in the first 'warproom'. You don't have to complete them chronologically but you won't be able to face the first bos sand move onto the second of the five warprooms until all five crystals have been collected.

Alongside the crystals, collecting all the crates in each level will earn you a clear gem whilst some levels have two gems up for grabs for completing a special bonus area and of course the five coloured gems can also be obtained in a similar manner. There are five levels in each warproom and they vary from simple walkthrough to a variety of different tools such as the tiger and a motorcycle. Crash also has some new moves up his sleeve like a super slide, a super body slam and even a bazooker that shoots apples.

The graphics are even more advanced than the first two Crash games with a more concrete story and actual character voices. Crash's moves have improved and even his appearance and the other characters look a lot better than they have in previous games. Like its predecessors the game is played in a third person perspective with the side scrolling and 3D tube levels players will be accustomed too.

Adults might find the game a bit too easy to complete but I think it's still just as enjoyable as you may progress through the warprooms easily enough but there is much more itinery to gather such as relics from the new time trial feature as well as a secret warproom.

The storyline is basic enough and there's nothing challenging or confusing about the game. It's all fairly straight forward and put right in front of you. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy.

There is hours of fun to be had with this game and some of the villains and levels can be frustrating and even when completed gaining all the relics in normal, gold and platinum form can keep you going for even longer. The time trial feature is completing the level within a set time in order to gain the three relics. Some of the boxes within the level will be replaced with 'time freezing' crates that freeze the clock for either 1,2 or 3 seconds. The time trial option is only open after you have completed the level for the first time and can be activated by grabbing the floating, yellow clock located at the start of each level.

Basically Crash Bandicoot 3 is a solid part of the Crash series and just as exciting and challenging as any other game in the collection. Definately a classic for the playstation console.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A good all round crash game

Crash Bandicoot 3 (also known as CB Warped) is the thirs installment of the Crash Bandicoot series and the last platformer on the Playstation.
Crash 3 follows on from Crash 2 with Neo Cortex back yet again trying to get hold of all the power crystals with the help of his mask Uka Uka. Uka Uka is alive and can speak, he is the evil brother to Crash's mask Aku Aku. Aku Aku helps Crash during the games by acting as a lifeline, if crash has the mask and gets hit he will not die. If you get 3 masks, crash becomes invincible for a short time.

Anyway, Neo Cortex and Uka Uka need to collect all the power crystals (the large pink crystals from the last crash game) but Aku Aku senses something is wrong and gets Crash to stop Neo and collect the crystals himself.

Like the previous game, there are 25 levels and each level contains one power crystal which you need to collect to complete the game. The levels are similar to the previous game in the way that you usually run forward with the camera behind you and you have a set path to follow but the levels are very different to the previous game. The themes are all different, there are underwater levels where you move right and left, and some flying levels where you can fly all over, and some where you are on water on a little boat. Another thing that is different in this game is the fact that in some levels you play as Crash's sister Coco.
There are some levels as well where you can ride different things like motorbikes, biplane, jet ski and even a young dinosaur and in some of these levels, like the biplane episode, you have to shoot down a bad guys blimps before you receive the crystal.

When you first start the game, you are put on a large island type platform. There is a centre platform with a save/load screen, then around the edge are 5 entrances to smaller circle platforms. Then in these 5 sections are 5 small pads. These are the level entrances. At the beginning of the game there is only one of these small rooms (i will call them warp rooms) open and you must complete all the 5 levels before you can move onto the next warp room. But it isn't as simple as that, once you have completed the 5 levels, you have to face a boss. The difficulty of the bosses gets increasingly harder as you progress.

Once you have beaten the boss, you can move onto the next warm room and complete the next 5 levels. In the warp rooms you can complete them in any order as long as you do complete them and get the pink crystal.

Once you have completed all 5 warm rooms and collected all 25 crystals you finally face Neo Cortex himself, along with his evil mask Uka Uka. In this boss level you have to avoid being hit by things thrown by Neo, all the while the two maska (Uka and Aku) are battling in the middle. You have to avoid being hit, and when you have the chance you have to spin into Neo. He starts off with 3 lives so once you hit him three times that is the end. But it isn't as simple as it may sound. You can't just go to hit him at any time, you have to wait till the right times, and each time you hit him, it gets harder and harder.

Once you manage to defeat Neo, you are free to go back to any levels you maybe did not complete fully or you can just have a play around, or of course you can just turn the game off.

I really enjoyed this game and i loved the way it was different to the last one in the way you can play as Coco, and you can use things like motorbikes ans jet skis in some levels.

The quality of the game, like the last one is very good, the graphics are really good, colourful and a bit cartoony but not over the top so it is only for young children. I believe anyone any age can play this game and enjoy it. The sound is also good, it has a good mix of music and good voices which fit the characters perfectly.

If you haven't already, i advise you to try to play this game if you have the chance, i think you will enjoy it.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

This is the 3rd installment of Crash our fury bandicoot loved by all and probably my favourite one of them all. This game is quite a bit harder than the first 2 but it also has improved quite a bit. Crash runs about mostly collected fruit and destroying things in his path, this sounds boring but when you start playing believe me its fun. There are different paths to take and only one is open to begin with, there are 30 levels in all. Each path has 5 levels and you can do them in any order anfter completion of the 5 a boss appears, these can be quite tricky but there easy to difeat once you get the hang of it. You also have to do a time trial which is quite hard but you can gain running boots to make it easier. If you complete in a certain time you get a blue or gold key. Then to top it all off on each level you have to collect all the crystals by smashing open every box even on the special stages you need these games to progress further. Every single level is different and the developers have done well not to run out of ideas. Some levels are ancient others in modern day like in space. Some levels you can use other things to get you around like jet skis and aeroplanes which adds to the gameplay which is outstanding Loading and saving is easy to and could be done by a 5 year old, it even has pictures to help Overall this game is outstanding and should be bought.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

The Crash Bandicoot series has always been one of my favorite series, ever since I first played part TWO. Yes, there was a time where I did not like the series and was biased against the series, but that is a long story. Quite frankly, I never really figured out why I didn't like the series in a first place. For those of you new to the Crash Bandicoot series, it is a platformer series in the reins of the Super Mario Brothers series, with a new twist: the series combines both 3D and 2D graphics to make a wonderfully unique and fun game. Besides the basic ''jump on top of the enemies'' gameplay found in a lot of the platformers out there, there are a lot of cool innovations in the series, like getting a ride from an elephant and barreling down a highway, or flying in an airplane, collecting boxes. And of all the Crash Bandicoot games in the series (3, if you don't count CTR: Crash Team Racing) part 3 is my favorite, although part 2 comes a close second. Read on for the reasons why. Yes, the game does have high replay value. Mainly because there are a lot of secrets in the game. Like collecting the various crystals, gems, etc. Plus there is the added time trial mode, which is a cool addition. I can see you playing this game for weeks based on the time trial mode alone. Overall, the replay value in the game is great. The challenge level is kind of mediocre. Ahh, a flaw in such a great game. Ever notice how most of the truly great games are kinda easy? Well this game is no exception. Not only is it easy, it's the easiest game in the series, by far. It really is a shame too, because they could have made the game more difficult. There was only one challenging stage for me, and that was the airplane stage. Otherwise, the challenge was pretty much non existant. GOOD POINTS -What isn't a good point about this game? -The replay value is wonderful thanks to several different game secrets. -
Wonderful graphics and stage design BAD POINTS -The challenge level is a little on the low side. Hell, there is no challenge in the game. -Digital control is a bit iffy in certain spots. -Whew, that was tough. I found two flaws! I love the Crash Bandicoot series, and this is the best of them all. The game combines platform action with an adventure element (collecting gems and crystals) and the result is a wonderful blend of genres that is perfect for fans of the action/adventure genre. What a great game. Ahh, the most important part of a video game, and Crash 3: Warped! fails to disappoint. For those of you new to the series, the Crash Bandicoot series is a lot like the Super Mario series, only it is 3D instead of 2D (well, for the most part). There are also a lot of new and innovative ideas featured, ranging from the unique stage system to the boss strategies. The stage system in Crash 3: Warped! is very interesting, to say the least. You start off in a room with 6 different paths. Only one path is open to you from the beginning, so you are forced to go to that path. Walk down it and 5 buttons pop up. These are the first 5 stages of the game. Like the Mega Man series, there is no particular order to doing these stages, so you can complete them in any order that you wish. However, there is really no big deal, there are no special advantages to completing the stages in a certain order. In each stage, you have to collect a purple crystal. Collect it in the stage, and you have officially completed the stage. You can not officially complete a stage without collecting the purple crystal. There are other things you can collect in the stages too, including gems. Also, there are boxes in the stage, and collecting all the boxes in a stage lead to a special reward. You are notified at the end of the stage about how many boxes you have collected. Another cool thing about the game is the fact that it is tot
ally non linear, in the fact that you can always come back to completing a stage at any time. The only time you cannot do this is when you have completed all 5 of the stages in a certain section, then you are forced to kill the boss before being able to go back to those 5 stages. Now you may be wondering, what is the big deal? Well, yuo can open up secrets like this. For instance, opening up something in the 17th stage, and you can go back to the 6th stage and collect a secret item. Cool, eh? I haven't seen that since Blaster Master! There is a lot of cool things about this game, but I think that the variety of stages in the game is by far the coolest. There are a lot of cool stages in the game, from the airplane stage (kill all the dimly colored airplanes in a few minutes while collecting boxes) to water skiing (by far the 2nd most fun stage in the game) 2nd most fun? Then what's my fave stage? The ones where you are achased by various things, like polar bears or boulders. Those stages are so much fun, and can get quite intense! Controls in the game are rock solid. Moving around the various stages are easy, either with analog control or with the regular digital control. Precision jumping is tough in the game, but the controls are thankfully forgiving in these certain situations. The only problem I had with these controls are the fact that sometimes it is difficult to move with the digitial control, especially in those ''run away from the thing that chases you'' stages. Otherwise, the control is great. Overall, Crash 3: Warped! combines platform action with an adventure element (collecting gems and crystals) and the result is a wonderful blend of genres that is perfect for fans of the action/adventure genre. What a great game. Like I have already mentioned, the developers of the game did a great job in combining 3D and 2D graphics. What do I mean by this? Well most of the game has the camera directed behind
you, with Crash looking ahead. This leads to a 3D look. But when you enter something like a secret stage, the camera shifts to a 2D angle, with a rotating 3D background. It looks very cool, trust me ^_^ Character designs in the game are decent, although there are really only a couple of main characters in the game. The two main characters in the game are Crash Bandicoot (duh) and his sister, Coco. They are designed a lot like one another, they are the basic design of a bandicoot (orange with orange and black ears and a black stomach). Overall, the character designs in the game are not that bad. Enemy designs in the game are pretty good as well. There are a lot of different enemies in the game, and they all look wonderfully designed. For instance, there are enemies like a jumping alligator (or crocodile) that looks very realistic, then suddendly you are attacked by a realistic looking bird. Therefore, all the enemies look very realistic, and overall the enemy designs in the game are great. Overall, the graphics in Crash 3: Warped! are great, and look much better than the first two games in the series, which really didn't look that bad at all themselves. Everything in the game looks realistic, from the water effects to the various backgrounds of the game. The graphics really push the Playstation to the edge in terms of graphical detail. Great job, Naughty Dog! The music and sound effects in the Crash Bandicoot series have always been great, but Crash 3: Warped! takes the prize for the best music and sound effects in the series. I didn't think that the music and sound effects could be improved greatly from the previous games in the series, but Naughty Dog proved me wrong once again! Music in the game is fantastic, and there is a variety of great tunes, from the classic music early on in the game to the cool boss tunes. The music has a nice beat to it, and I noticed that the music featured in almost every stage fit t
he feeling of the stage perfectly. For instance, the music in the futuristic stages had a hip 22nd century beat to it, while in the water stages there was a calm and more subdued tune. Overall, the music in the game is fantastic. Sound effect wise, the sound effects in the game are great as well. There is a variety of sound effects, from the sound of Crash spinning through several enemies to the sound of a boss getting bonked in the head with a hammer. They all sound great, and really push the Playstation (a system known for quality music and sound effects) to its limit. Overall, the sound effects in the game are great. Overall, the music and sound effects in the game are simply great. The music has a nice variety to it, and each stage has music that fits the feeling of the stage very nicely. The sound effects in the game are top notch, as well. Great job, Naughty Dog!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Crash Bandicoot 3 is the last Crash adventure game on the Playstation. Naughty Dog have done one Crash game after this and that was Crash Team Racing, a cutesy cart racer. Now that Naughty Dog have sold the rights to make Crash games in order to concentrate on Jak and Daxtar so the quality of Crash games is not assured anymore. That means that Crash 3 could be the bandicoot’s greatest ever outing. The premise of this game is simple. Evil Dr Cortex is trying to take over the world again, bit predictable really, and it is up to an apple crunching bandicoot by the name of Crash to stop them. Together with his girlfriend and a magic mask Crash sets about thwarting Cortex’s plan. The levels are very linear, so much so in fact that there is only one route through each level but what did you expect, its an adventure game aimed at younger gamers. Basically each level involves picking something up along the way, killing all the enemies and reaching the finish. There is a bit of variety with motorbike and underwater levels chucked in and as well as that each level has a different theme which makes for a nice change of scenery. The game is very easy for accomplished gamers and may not present much of a challenge however for young ‘uns it rivals Rayman and Spyro as the top Playstation platformer. The graphics are cutesy cartoon style which fail to impress now although were ok when the game was first released. Crash 3 is a laugh to play when you just want a simple but fun game. The moves are limited to a spin and slam to get rid of the enemies. The playability is good but the lifespan is not. This game could last you less than a week as it has no replay value whatsoever. A great game for kids but fails to present much of a challenge to older gamers.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

After two incarnations, some people may be sick of Crash Bandicoot. Sure, there are the funny commercials, but many people were angered by the linear, old fashioned platform gameplay. If you were in that group, let me be the first to alert you that there isn't much of a difference in Crash Bandicoot: Warped - most of the levels still play the same. There are a few new ones thrown in, such as swimming, driving, and wave runners, but for the most part you are still walking forward and backward on a path. But has the gameplay in Crash ever really been bad? No -- and Crash Bandicoot: Warped is certainly an improvement in the series. The story picks up where Crash Bandicoot 2 left off. Dr. Neo Cortex's space station is exploding and parts of it are falling towards Earth. One of the fragments hits a mountain, unleashing Uka Uka, freeing him from the spell that was holding him back. Uka Uka is a big Hawaiian floating tribal mask (much like Aku Aku, Crash's friend) that has an evil voice and glows. Cortex, under Uka Uka's command is now out to collect the crystals that you previously stole. However, since there are no crystals left in your time period, Uka Uka and Cortex create a time machine where they travel all throughout history looking for crystals. You of course, have to get to them first. The graphics in Crash: Warped are by far some of the best on the PlayStation. The smooth, cartoonish (in a good way) animation is top of the line, bested by no other game. The limitless rendering distance coupled with beautiful 3D models make Crash the pinnacle of PlayStation rendering. Ripples in the water, smoke when you peel out on a Harley, the realtime shadows, and all of the other eye candy and special effects make the game all the more pretty. Crash has incredible texture quality, lack of noticeable dithering, and some of the best backgrounds ever seen in a game. Naughty Dog has outdone itself with Crash: Warped. On the other
hand, while the enemies look good, they are a little boring. Every foe in the whole game disappears with one hit. And when I say disappears, I mean it. There are no death animations at all. Hit a shark (three times the size of crash) just once, and he simply vanishes. It just doesn't look quite right. Control in Crash is impressive. The tight controls of the earlier games have only become tighter, making jumps, belly flops, and spins all the easier to do. There are even special upgrades you can get for you moves, for example, after beating the first time travel area you receive a more powerful belly flop that sends out shock waves from you point of impact. Bonuses aside, control is really acute; it all feels coherent, and perfectly augments the attractive graphics. Sound, in terms of voices, fits perfectly into the cut-scenes. Crash's friends and enemies are equally funny, everything is over-exaggerated. I would go so far as to say it is the best voice acting in a game - the voices are like those in good cartoons, and sometimes even better! The music is equally cartoonish, there is lots of old Warner Brothers type stuff in Crash, but then again, he's always been awfully similar to the Tazmanian Devil. The creativity just doesn't stop, either! The levels are all interesting, there is not one generic, ugly, or boring level in the whole lot. The are both fun to play and fun to look at. Crash has jokes aplenty up his sleeve, and the character and level design really show it. Dr. Cortex's head is engraved all throughout the game on historical landmarks. It's the little details that count most. The game is fun, funny, and challenging - I don't think you could ask for much else. Crash Bandicoot: Warped is a barrage of good things. The graphics, sound, music, levels, and difficulty all come together perfectly. Naughty Dog has made Crash a much better game, something that is commendable when so many sequels c
ome up short. If you haven't given Crash a try, definitely pick this CD up - and if you are already a Crash fan, this game far surpasses its predecessors and you should get it immediately.

Crash Bandicoot started as Sony's answer to Sonic and Mario, but it didn't quite work... at first. It really took off with the latest episode, Crash Bandicoot 3 - Warped. In Crash Bandicoot 3, the evil Dr. Cortex is up to no good yet again with a new band of baddies for you to defeat. This time the game takes place across a huge area of time and space, making for good variation of levels, which in turn keep the game fresh. The 30 different levels are mostly composed of the same 3D platform-jumping obstacle-evading Crash levels that were in the previous games. Some levels, however, allow you to take control of vehicles such as a biplane, motorcycle, or Jet Ski. These levels offer more variation and are like little sub games that spice up the action and break up the monotony. When you go through the levels you are rewarded with crystals and gems. In Crash Bandicoot 3, you can also collect a relic for beating a level within a certain amount of time. Also new to the third game is the ability to learn new moves upon defeating a boss. Abilities like the super belly flop, double jump, super spin, and super run definitely help you to get through the levels faster. These moves will also help you unlock secret levels. Visually, Crash 3 has no faults. The smooth character animations and bright, colorful landscapes make the game look like a cartoon. Amazing attention to detail and gorgeous lighting effects give torches, lasers, and other illuminating objects in the world a life of their own. All of this along with a refreshingly fast and steady frame rate easily makes Crash 3 one of the most beautiful PlayStation games ever. Crash 3 even delivers in the audio department. It has outstanding music, sound effects, and character voice-overs that are not only extremely well done, but the onscreen lip-synching is almost perfectly matched to the voice. In the end, Crash Bandicoot 3 is easily the best Crash yet. Every aspect
of the game is better: new moves, levels, bosses, graphics, sound, and most importantly, gameplay. It's the most fun I've had with a 3D platform game in a long, long time. It's a must-have for fans of platformers. It has recently been reduced in price which makes it an ideal time to try this out now.

The ugly Australian rodent is back! Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped is the sequel to the incredibly popular Crash Bandicoot 2 and 1 (gee, I wonder which rocket scientist figured that out?). This series has been hailed as Sony's answer to Mario and Sonic. Crash Bandicoot enjoys the popularity that only the two latter games and Tomb Raider's Lara Croft can provide. The first two Crashs sold over three million copies world-wide collectively. But is Crash 3 any good - or is it just a load of over-hyped bandicoot bollocks? Variety pack The original Crash was set in South-East Australia. But in the third installment, Crash travels through time all around the world. Some of the places our furry little hero visits are the Great Wall of China, the Jurassic era, World War I, Medieval England, 1950s USA, the Middle East and the future. The visuals in Crash 3 are top-notch. They are vastly improved over its prequels. The backgrounds are showered with polygons galore - all of which make the environment in Crash 3 a beautiful place to play. Crash and all the characters are very well detailed and although are not cartoon quality, it comes close. One nice touch to the visuals is the number of ways Crash Bandicoot can die - whether he's being kissed by a frog which turns into a Prince, rammed in the arse by a goat or flattened by a mummy in a tomb - it is quite funny to watch. The blokes at Naughty Dog have done a fantastic job with the graphics. Not many platform games on PlayStation look better than this. Warner Bros. style Sonically, Crash 3 fares well. The music is the usual cartoony Crash theme that players of the other Crash Bandicoot games should be familiar with by now. It's nothing really special but there is nothing wrong with it and it suits this game fine. The sound effects are much better, however. The voices are great while everything else has its place in the game. The audio is the weakest part of Crash Bandicoot 3 War
ped, but it is by no means bad. That fat plumber better watch his back Where Crash 3 shines is in its playability. Platform games don't get much more jolly than this and Crash 3 rivals Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. series for brilliance. Not only does Crash 3 feature the usual platform levels (which, by the way are into the screen and across the screen - not fully 3D like Super Mario 64 or Spyro the Dragon), but it also features a jet ski level similar to Wave Race on Nintendo 64, a motorbike racing stage, and a brilliant little shooting game where you take control of a bi-plane and shoot down hot air balloons and other planes. You also get to ride a tiger and t-rex as well as scuba dive under water but these levels aren't as innovative as the others, although they do break up the monotony of the standard platofrm levels. You'll get plenty of milage with Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped Crash 3 is packed with secrets. Naughty Dog have cleverly put in hidden areas that you can only access once you complete the game or do some other task. If you complete the game normally you would only have un-earthed about 30% of Crash Bandicoot 3 - there are plenty of surprises to come back to after you beat the game! If you are a fan of platform games Crash Bandicoot 3 is an essential purchase. It is by far my favourite platform game on PlayStation. I like it far better than Spyro the Dragon, Croc and the two Crash Bandicoot prequels. Crash 3 is one of the best games to come out of the USA. Blimey, I'm surprised that the Yanks can make such a good console game!

                    Disadvantages

Of all the Crash series, my opinion is that Crash Bandicoot 3 is by far the best. With its huge gameplay, colourful graphics and numerous challenges, there is no end to the fun that can be extracted from this game. There are a lot of additions from the first two games, such as being able to have an extra step in the air and the longer spinning time. You have to use these to complete most of the levels later on. Along with Crash comes the usual array of friends or vehicles, most notably the jet ski and the aeroplane. These are both quite hard and it is particularly hard to complete them when you are competing for the best time. Sorry, but I can’t suggest any ways to do it because, as I found out, you need and element of luck to do the levels. Another addition are the dying sequences, which may not sound too appealing, but are humerous all the same. Whether its being kissed by the frog or being cut in half by the sword , they are just a nice addition which for once make dying fun. The levels are much the same as the old ones, and as you would expect the concept is much the same: run in a straight line grabbing boxes and killing things (the game is a lot more fun than that sounds). There is also races on motorbikes which is another fun addition, and this is one of the levels which must be completed. The bike takes some time to get used to and also watch out for the holes because they lose a lot of time. Beware of the speed pads as well, because some of them will send you off course. Crash Bandicoot 3:Warped in Time is a fantastic game, and it will even make the Crash newcomer have a good time. If you don’t like Crash, buy it. If you like Crash, buy it. Either way, buy it because it is a truly great game.

                    Disadvantages

This is by far one of the best sort of 'cartoon' games I've ever played!! For those of you who haven't played any of the Crash Bandicoot games before, this is the third in the series, and goes by the name of 'CRASH WARPED'. Crash is a bandicoot, who runs around collecting It quite a bit harder than the first two. As well as being harder, its design is also improved. You are mainly based in one kind of central area. Off of this you have paths which lead you to your 6 sets of 5 levels (so there's 30 all together). You start with only one path open. This leads you off over a bridge, to where you can find your first 5 levels. They are numbered 1 to 5 but you can do them in any order. Once you have completed these 5 levels, an boss level will appear. When you've defeated the boss, the gate to the next 5 levels will open. This trend works all of the way through the game with each 5 new levels being opened on the completion of each boss (some can be tricky, but not so hard that it really gets annoying). Completing most of the levels is fairly straight forward. Nothing too hard. However, to complete the game, you have to first complete each level, and then on each level you have to complete a time trial (which is great fun). If you complete a level in a certain time, you'll be given either a blue or a gold key thing (you need all gold to complete it). The time that you have to get is shown so you know what to aim for. This is made much easier with the fast running boots (you're given a special power on completion of each boss - this is one of them). You also have to get all of the gems. You are given one of these on each level when you smash open ALL of the boxes (which includes those on special stages). There are also extra coloured gems which you have to collect on some levels. Collecting coloured gems means that you can gain access to extra parts of some levels (so you can get thing
s which will help you complete the game). When you're given a certain number of time trail tokens, you also gain access to extra levels. For every 5 time trials you complete, you're allowed to play 1 extra level. So there's a lot for you to do. It takes a while to complete. You'll sometimes need to spend quite a lot of time searching backwards and forwards Each set of 5 levels goes on a different theme. Some are sort of Egyptian or medievil, while some are more modern and space-like. The levels themselves are mostly very different. The designers do well to think up so many different ideas for one game. You can even drive jet-skis and fly aeroplanes to shoot down hot air baloons and other stuff. Loading and saving games is easy, with pictures added to help you remember where you are. Its all done from a big TV screen which crash stands in front of and looks up at. There are six saving spaces on the game, so if you have a big family of CRASH lovers like me, you can each have your own game. It all sounds quite complicated really, but the game is actually very easy to understand. Its a favourite of mine, and also my little brothers. Definitely suitable for all. Its really great fun, and very addictive. Oh yeah, I'd also recommend at sometime not touching the controls for a while. Crash can get up to some pretty sill stuff when he gets bored of standing still.
