"Crash Nitro Kart" is a video game released to the Gameboy Advance console in 2003 by Universal Interactive. It is based on the popular "Crash Bandicoot" series released in the mid 1990s for the Sony Playstation console. In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for all ages.
The gameplay of this title reflects that of a typical racing genre release which features go-kart like vehicles. In it, players select from 19 different "Crash Bandicoot" characters who played both positive and negative roles in the platform video game series. From there the players select a race course from one of the 13 available tracks and compete against computer opponents in a head-to-head competition to complete the course in the fastest possible time. Like most "kart" style games, weapons play a central role and in this game the player is able to break through the typical crates seen in the Crash Bandicoot series. Gameplay can present a challenge initially as Nitro Kart features numerous and frequent sharp turns that require the player to gently tap the brake button in order to successfully navigate around them. After this initial learning curve has passed it becomes a simple yet enjoyable racing game. It is geared towards being a single player game but does offer multiplayer connectivity by use of an optional game link cable.
The graphics of this title are good and are three dimensional in appearance. As the player drives through he or she will be met with a wide variety of environmental features to suit the terrain of the track including forest or desert features. The detailing is good and I found the game to be visually pleasing. The soundtrack is also of a good standard with the developers taking theme tunes from earlier released Crash titles and remixing them to suit a racing environment.
Overall, I would recommend Crash Nitro Kart to prospective buyers. It is on par with popular racing releases of the same nature including Mario Kart.
