Evolution for the Dreamcast was one of my least favorite RPG's that I have ever played. The storyline was weak, the fighting system only average, the economy of money system made it very difficult to acquire a fortune, or even enough money to buy needed items.
The beginning of this game confused me very much. I powered up the game, selected "new story" and all of a sudden, BOOM, I'm in the middle of a battle. I thought my disc was defective and skipped to a battle, but after finishing it, I realized that was just how the game started.
The graphics to this game are typical of other Dreamcast games. It is created by UBIsoft, so if you ever played Grandia 2, it looks similar to that. The in-game movies looked nice, but there were not enough of them.
The fighting system is turn-based. There is a bar on the right side of the screen to let you know who is going to fight when, so that allows you to plan some strategy in battle. You can see the enemies before you engage in battle, so if you want to skip a fight, you can try to run past them.
Most of this game seems to be fighting. There is very little story line, which to me, is very boring. If I wanted to fight most of the game, I would have played an action game.
The end of this game is the worst! When you go to the final location where the boss is, you can't return back to your town until you beat the game. Well, apparently I wasn't ready to fight the final boss, and my characters weren't strong enough when I got to the boss. I couldn't level up because there were no enemies, so I was unable to beat the game. I wasted 24 hours of gameplay to be unable to beat the game.
There are many things that this game could have done better. I don't suggest playing this game if you are looking for a good Dreamcast RPG.
Evolutions story is short, It defenatly could stand to be a little longer. I would also like to have seen more spells and abbalities, however I do like the concept of Cyframes. This game lacks in depth but you have to look at the fact that it is the first RPG on the Dreamcast. I do have to say that the graphics are impressive and the game play is fluid. Ubi Soft did a good job utalizing the Dreamcasts capablities I wouldn't spend forty pounds on this game (actualy I did so take it from me) altough it is defanatly worth playing. It is a good game to rent, one that you could probably beat in a weekend
Join Mag and Linear to help pay back your family's loan. You do this by getting a team of 3 people and then search ruins for artifacts to sell to the local adventure society. The artifacts are guarded by massive bosses that take alot to beat. The other players you get to control apart from Mag and Linear are: Pepper - A fellow keen adventurer Chain - A girl with a big interest in Mag Gre - Mags familys butler Each character has different fighting style and set of moves. The graphics are brilliant and look really colourful. The music is quite good with a variety in style. The gameplay is really good and it lasts quite a bit compaired to some other RPG's. Not a shenmue beater but worth buying - Bring on Evolution 2 !
Although alot of people hated this game because of the random dungeons and other things connected to the that area, they never really had the patience to sit down and PLAY the game and imediately decided that the story went no where. After over 2 months of playing this game I was happy out of what I received from it! Not only did it give me quite a challenge, but it also gave me hours of fun! Although it did annoy me with how much I had to battle to boost my experience points, when I finally got to my destination I was pleased I worked with it! Yet again this is another Dreamcast game with beautiful graphicsand in-depth gameplay. i enjoyed it so why shouldn't you.
when this game first came out it was meant to be really goog, but a lot of opinions have changed, sure the game looks good but its not, the graphics are mint but theres nothing to do, you go to a cave which is ok cause its new, you complete it, you go to another cave and it looks exactly the same! They all look the same! they have some cute characters in evolution with some really cool moves but some of the moves look the same, but i cant moan about all of it, it does have some good things, quite a big world, quite cool moves to learn, new freinds to meet and fight with, strange enemies. i would not get this game if i were you, i dont like it and i dont think you will either.
This is the best I have seen so far on the Dreamcast and Sega I am sorry to say that this is quite terrible. You can only see this game from a bird’s eye view, which gives you the impression that this was made to help, fill the shelf spaces left bare under the RPG section for Dreamcast. I really hope that this is the Dreamcast's lamest effort at an RPG or the Dreamcast has simply fallen behind on its game development front. The game entertains for about an hour and then it is a case of gritting your teeth and making you £40 worth out of it. Not only does it look bland but is easy as well. It has limited weapons and a dull plot where Mag Launcher has to save the dumb girl from being exploited as a weapon. To top this all off the music is diabolical. It makes such games as final fantasy look like Mozart composed the sound track. Well Sega I can only hope that this improves.
