Advantages: Season mode continues after Year 1
Ever since 1994 on the Mega-Drive, EA Sports' Fifa series both on quality and popularity has dominated the football computer game market. No other series has even come close. There has been International Superstar Soccer, with games on the Mega-Drive, N64 and Playstation, and there has been the UEFA series including UEFA Champiomns League and UEFA Striker, but each year Fifa has stood out as by far the best football game available.
Last year's game, Fifa 2000, I was pretty negative about, because although it is a great game and to someone who's never played Fifa before, it was probably the best football game avaiable, I had only recently been playing Fifa 99, and got bored of it, when I bought Fifa 2000, and so it was a great disappointment to me as except for a few improvements it was very similar to 99.
Does the trend of similarity follow this year? Nope! Obviously Fifa 2001 is going to be similar in some ways to the previous releases, but there are also many new ideas and improvements to make Fifa 2001 the best football game yet.
Things kept the same include the Camera Angles - I recommend Telecam or Tower Cam as you can see the play from the side and control is quite easy. But on Fifa 2001 you can customise the cameras, you are able to zoom in, zoom out, and position the camera higher or lower.
Another thing the same is the controls, the basic Fofa controls that are now natural instinct to many of use, with O to shoot, X to pass etc. Although this year holding down the skill buttons (L2, R2) will perfrom a different skill.
I think these two things being kept the same was a good decision by EA because it is important to feel comfortable and used to the gameplay so that you can play well, and so that you don't have to spend time getting used to the game. For new users, the controls and angles help this game to eb very easy to pick up quickly.
One important improvement from Fifa 2000 in my opinio
n is that in season mode you can continue for more than one season and teams are promoted and relegated. This gives you purpose in season mode, it's not just about winning a trophy then that's it, you must try to qualify for Europe, avoid Relegation etc. And Also it expand the variety of teams to play, with first division teams being promoted.
As well as that adding to the variety of teams, the game itself has an extremely wide variety of teams now - on the International scale there is everyone from England to Qatar, and at club level there are teams from the English League, Spanish Leaugue, Italian, French, German and even Israeli leagues, as well as several others.
You can play in a large number of competitions in Fifa 2001, the game modes include Friendly, Season, Custom Cup and Tournaments.
Friendly is basically an exhibition match between any two teams of your choice, it is a good one for practice or to play with your mates.
Custom Cup allows you to create your own tournament. You can choose the teams to go into the tournament, and you can customise everything from whether or not there is a league stage, to how many legs there are against opponents, to how many teams are promoted from each league group (if you decide to have a league stage).
The season mode as I mentioned earlier continues for more than one season, and includes the League, the national cup, and european competitions. These are not played in stages, one-by-one, they are played like they are in real life, a few league games then a cup match, then some more league games.
The tournaments game mode allows you to enter every tournament from the European Cup to the World Cup.
As well the above, Fifa 2001 has so many more great features and improvements thta relly make it the ultimate football experience. I recommend you get your hands on it immediately.
