Advantages: Why should pets lose out?
Disadvantages: May be thought of as silly
Isn't it a shame that all the groups in this Christmas category is catering for the human animal and that something is missed out. Nearly every household has a pet of some kind. Most of us with pets treat them as part of the family too -don't we? In that case why can't they celebrate it too in their own way? I have 2 hamsters , a cat and some tropical fish, besides a hubbie and 2 boys( I forgot who were the animals for a second, sorry). At Christmas I don't bother buying the stockings available at pet shops because I found that half of the food or toys were a waste of money , so I make up my own pressies instead. I thought I would try and give you a couple of ideas and hope you can use them. For cats and dogs there are the usual toys, biscuits and meaty treats. I have also knitted small bones for dogs and mice for cats to chew and they adore them. Dog coats and little hats with pompoms as well if you want to? For the hamsters/rats/gerbils/mice there are fruity treats, seeds, nuts, toys and for something different maybe a bit of their own Christmas dinner. For the fish there is food, plants, new tank, and other food treats. Well you can't give them socks can you? Cheap toys and blankets can be got from charity shops and foods can be got anywhere. They shouldn't miss out because as the saying goes - pets are not for Christmas but all year too( unless you are a turkey maybe) Sorry veggies / vegans no offence meant!!

- 12/11/00 My dog used to always get a large bowl of christmas dinner, whislt wearing a paper hat (it's amazing how cute a doberman can look with a paper hat round it's neck!). We gave her trifle one yera, not a good idea, it soon came back! |
