      Suprisingly fun little game!

Konami Krazy Racers follows the same basic gameplay as mario kart but for once unlike most other mario kart clones actually pulls it off well which suprised me greatly with a name like "konami Krazy Racers". Characters from such series such as castlevania and metal gear solid are featured in this game.

The games controls are very basic. A and B accelerate and brake and the shoulder buttons jump and fire weapons. You can powerslide but Ive never bothered with it. All the characters have there own stats. For example gray fox has good acceleration, slow top speed and an average turning rate. Differnet characters are better at different tracks. All Items on the track are color coded so defensive and offensive weapons are both red and speed items are blue.

Before being able to advance to the next cup in grandprix mode you are required to complete certain tests. These tests can be time trials or winning one on one races etc. There is also a shop that allows you to buy items such as rockets, sheilds and items that attack everyone on the track. Buying Items makes the grandprix mode easier.

After you have completed the grandprix mode there is still a couple of modes to try in battle mode. These are bomb chaser and chicken. In bomb chaser one player gets stuck with a bomb and they have to get rid of it before the bomb explodes by passing it on to another racer. In chicken you drive down a track at full speed then brake as late as possible so you dont fly off the end. The closer you get the edge the better. Up to 4 players can also enter in both these modes and any empty slots will be filled by computer opponents making these two modes even more fun.

The tracks are generally very fun and varied but unfortunatley it is sometimes hard to see where you are going on the gameboy advance as you cannot see very far ahead. The Graphics of the characters themselves are generally good with the exception of one or two. The music though is one of the main flaws in this game with annoying/terrible songs apart from the odd couple.

Overall this game is very fun with good singleplayer grandprix and a fun multiplayer mode that increases its playability. Generally good graphics but unfortunatley low view distance and bad music.

      Thumbs up

"Konami Krazy Racers" is a video game released for the Gameboy Advance console in 2001 by Konami. It is a racing game based on go-karts. In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for all ages.

The gameplay of this title reflects a standard racing release. In it, players select from an assortment of characters from Konami's game series including "Castlevania", "Gradius" and "Metal Gear Solid". The objective of the game is complete Grand Prix style tournaments and achieving accolades by the way of trophies. While this may sound like an average racing title, Krazy Racers offers the player two distinct features. First, he or she must be able to complete time trial tournaments in between "cup" accomplishments in order to progress to the next series of races. Failure to complete a somewhat difficult course in the specified time will require the player to repeat the time trial until successful. The game also includes in game coins which are collected on the track. These coins are then exchanged for weapons, power-ups and other distinctions rather than being awarded them at random during the race. There is a strong element of strategic thinking because of this. Krazy Racers also features a multiplayer mode by the use of an optional game link cable.

The graphics are presented from a trailing view of the player's vehicle. Each course is visually stunning with each track being based on a popular Konami franchise, for example a warehouse complete with boxes and crates for Metal Gear Solid. The animations are smooth with no obvious signs of choppiness or slowing down. The characters are also very well designed and each bear resemblance to their intended identity. The soundtrack is also good with musical scores being remastered and compressed directly from the assorted video games which the courses represent. The sound effects are standard as far as racing games go with engine noises and tyre screeches throughout gameplay.

Overall, I would recommend Krazy Racers to prospective buyers. It is a good offering of solid gameplay combined with excellent visuals.

Konami Krazy Racers Game: This game is all about wining racers in your Go-Kart. You take the role of 1 of several wacky characters these include the Cyborg from Metal Gear Solid and the Dracula from Castlevania. Some of the characters though are new to use all as most Konami games are only released in America and Japan. The game is very like Mario Kart and I personally think it would be better if Mario Kart did not have any predecessors. Gameplay: Its like any Karting game, there are plenty of tracks and Karts and many different ways to play the game. There are 4 main areas for the game these are Krazy GP, Free Run, Time Attack and battle mode. Krazy GP is the main mode in the game and its all about getting points to win the championship. Time Attack is were you have to try and beat your best times on a track. Free run is were you race against 7 other racers just for fun. Battle is my favourite mode as you have to battle it out and hit your opponents to try and give them a bomb or the other battle game is chicken were you have to race to the end of a track and stop as close to the edge as possible. Advantages: This game looks stunning from the moment you turn it on the graphics are brilliant for such a small machine. They Graphics look cheeky and cheerful as Konami have used the cartoony feel to the game. Disadvantages: There is one disadvantage a can think of but unfortunately it’s a big one. The game only took me 2 hours to complete on the hard Mode. Conclusion: This game has good pick up and play value but unfortunately it gets completed to quick.

        Disadvantages

This title oozes fun right from the word go in straight to the point racing action. Think Mario Kart with Konami characters and you can't go far wrong. This title is very polished, sounds great and really shows off the GBA's power. Using Mode-7 3d, much like F-Zero, this game looks fantastic. Okay, so it may not be super-smooth - but it definitely looks sharp and fun. The usual icy, tropical and space-themed tracks are here and they look very cartoony with wacky colours and superb effects. The gameplay is very good, if a little short lived. But all things summed-up, this title is aching for Mario Kart's crown. Too bad that MK is set to be released on the Gameboy Advance very soon - and somehow it Konami Krazy Racers can't quite match Nintendo's own in the novelty-factor. But you will not go wrong if you buy this title - it is an excellent all-rounder and really shows you what the Gameboy Advance can do when it puts its mind to it. I can see you rushing out to your nearest gamestore right now! But remember, Mario Kart is to released soon - an I hear it has a few surprises up its sleave. So if you can hold your breath wait a few weeks and then decide. I've already bought my copy ! 8.5/10 - An excellent addition to an already fantastic line up for the Gameboy Advance. Great fun.

{:-Intro-:} I have to open on this line Konami Krazy Racers is a Mario Kart clone, but how ever an extremly good Mario Kart clone indeed. Mario has dominated the Go-Karting scene for years now and Konami Krazy Racers has finally broken it as no one else has tried to take on Nintendo. The game itself plays just the same has a Mario Kart game but with the Characters from Konami games. The ones you would most know are the Ninga from Metal gear solid and the Dracula from Castlevania. Wow I hear you all say. {:-Graphics-:} Wow these graphics are mind blowing for such a small machine, you can now see why the Gameboy Advance was compared with the Playstation 1. That is how most of them are...however they are in great detail and do show some power of the GBA. The level of detail on the characters is amazing and I found myself looking at Mario Kart64 to see which looked better. However the game took a kiddie look...in the sense of the characters. Dracula looks like Papa Smurf meets Santa Claus and looks like a blue, happy, red eyed, white bearded, pointy eared guy. The Ninja even looks like a little plush doll instead of a deadly killer. The Levels/Tracks are great apart from some are copied straight from Mario Kart take Dracula stage for instant it is just like Bowsers castle with lava Pits and all. {:-Gameplay-:} Make sure you don’t make any Mistakes otherwise you will know go crashing into a wall. The tracks are really fun and tight, the game is really good. Some of the boosters which are on the tracks are hard to hit but apart from that the tracks are perfect. The characters are really good looking and the main characters are Goemon, Dracula, and the Ninja from metal gear solid. I think it would be better for Konami to but in more characters that we would know for a European release. The characters all have there own characteristics for instance: Heavy Weight – Dracula, Moai Dracula Top Speed 5 Ac
celeration 2 Grip 2 Middle Weight – Goemon, Pastel Top Speed 3 Acceleration 4 Grip 3 Light Weight – Nyami, Ninja Top Speed 3 Acceleration 5 Grip 2 Feather Weight – Pawapuro-Kun, Takosuke Top Speed 2 Acceleration 3 Grip 5 The single player mode consists of GT circuits, time trials, free play, and a few fun mini games (Bomb your opponents!). There are 4 GT circuits that require licenses to play. For example, don't expect to play the A Circuit until you have passed the A license test. You can't even take the A license test until you have completed all the B circuits. The mini games are great. There is a game where you play “it or tag” and another one where you play chicken where you have to races over 400m and stop as close to the line as you can, its not easy. You can only use the brake once. There are plenty of weapon power ups there great, here is a list and what they do. Turbo – Turbo Power Eye Wrap – You become invisible for some time. Time Bomber – Explodes 3 seconds after you launch it. Scooper Drill – Drills holes in the ground for rivals to fall in. Barrier – A barrier for protection Blue Missile – 3 missiles that fire straight ahead Red Missile – Heat seeker missile almost hits it target every time. Ice Crash – Pillars of ice rise up and rivals hit them. Electric Battery – Electrical charge it’s the enemies making them crash Pigs – The best weapon in the game turns all the enemies into little pigs Ally Spark – Friends of the characters appear like Ninja gets a helicopter from Metal Gear Solid. {:-Music and Sound-:} The music and sound in Krazy Racers is great, when you switch on the game at the title screen you'll here the amusing 'Wai Wai Racing' theme tune, with vocals too, believe
me, its great! During the game its all good especially the themes from the Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid. Just like the Graphics the sound is cool with themed music. {:-Final Word-:} The game itself is Great, it will take Months to complete, there are plenty of hidden extras which you will find out and you will be “Ooohhhh-ing and Aaahhhhing” over it for Ages. The sound is great so is the Ghraphics. Mario is not out yet and Mario will have a Hard time beating this. The only Problem is you may not know some of the characters. But that’s a small problem. Chris

          • "Characters driving skills are too similar"

          First GBA game I tried, and I wasn't disappointed! For a handheld console both sound and graphics were better than expected. This game is undeniably a MarioKart clone game, it plays very similarly to the SNES original, this however is not a bad thing! The game is fun and challenging towards the end, extra fun in 2 player mode. The controls are easy to master as they are straight forward and the karts respond well to your commmands, they are nippy wee machines just like in real life. My main gripe is that this game is too simple to complete , even to find the 4 hidden characters. Maybe it was because I only had one other game and I was so excited with my new toy? Nah! Overall verdict. Good game with nice features, but would be better with the odd Mario Brother don't you think? ;

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Konami Krazy Racers is an enjoyable game. It contains excellent graphics, and great gameplay to complement it. The aim of the game is simple, race around the track and attempt to end the race in position number one. What sets this game apart from other racing games? Well, the main feature for me was the weapons. In every track there are weapons to collect, they are disguised as Red Bells which should be ran into so that you may collect them. After collecting them it will choose a random weapon. There are many, ranging from rockets to bombs. Also there are blue bells which are used for boosting, like a turbo boost, it speeds you up basically. Another good feature is the battle mode, there is the bomb tag game where it is basically tag. There is a counter for the bomb to explode, to pass the bomb on the carrier must collide with another player to pass the bomb on. To prevent the spread of the bomb there are weapons which are available to the players. Also there is a Chicken Run part where you accelerate and brake to where you think five hundred metres is. This can be frustrating.... Well overall I think this is an excellent game to complement the Game Boy Advance, as it has graphics and gameplay.

I played the japanese version of this title "Wai Wai racing" and I was amazed at how good it was! The introduction screen had cool music -with vocals!! singing "WAI WAI RACING !!" There are various modes of play - Grand Prix, Time Trial, a strange bomb-toting version of tag and a funny "drive as fast as you can, but stop after 400m, or you fall in water" game.. The powerups and weapons are hilarious in this game. There are the standard rocket boosters, missile, triple missile, bomb, moles who dig into the floor, strange spells that turn everyone but you into pigs, and a "ghost" powerup - you can drive through people. Stranger powerups include a helicopter who follows you around and also a strange character who floats above your head and allows you to ram opponents into oblivion! Powerups are ESSENTIAL. If you don't use them, there's no way you can stay at first place... especially because the computer does not hesitate to use them!! The characters you can choose from are said to be unknown, but i recognise most of them - Goemon, The girl from Twinbee, the octopus from Twinbee, ninja from MGS and a bighead baseballer from power baseball.. The other characters were slightly ambiguous - probably never released here! Characters hardly make a difference to gameplay, although I always select Ninja, cos he looks damn cool! The graphics are cartoony, but are quite rough at places. The general speed of the game is fast, but nowhere near FZero! The controls are responsive - left and right to steer, R shoulder button to jump and L shoulder button to use power ups. The Select button is used for a rear view.. The bomb-tag game is fun when u first play it, but you really need to play it in multiplayer mode for full fun.. The main GP mode however is just amusing enough to entertain you in single player mode for quite a while. A complaint I would make is that some of the holes in the tracks
are a bit ambiguous... If the side of your wheel even scrapes past certain holes, your kart goes straight down, and BANG - you're at the back of the race!! Oh well - back to playing WAI WAI for me!

Originally titled Wai Wai Racing in Japan, but Konami thought the better of it and changed it to Konami Krazy Racers( I thought the first was better myself). The game itself is a karting game, where you have the choice of eight well known( so they claim) characters. These include: Goemon fresh from his two N64 advebtures he's ready to burn up the track, Dracula the evil prince of the night has taken a brake from world domination to have a bit of fun and also there is Jikkyou Pro( WHO! my words exactly), a guy we in the U.K won't know as he is from the Japanese baseball games. In total there are eight characters to get to grips with, you can also buy upgrades and add ons for your choosen kart from the intem shop. At the start there sixteen tracks to master including sandy beaches, a track which hopping through the sky and of course an ice level. There might even be a secret Metal Gear Soild level for those expert drivers. All in all a good karting game with nice but not detailed enough backgrounds. Konami obiviously rushed this game to get it out before Mario Kart, and it shows, with only 2 players in link up, but if you can't wait for Mario Kart this game will have you glued to your screens for a few weeks at least.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Konami Krazy Racers (Wai Wai Racing in Japan) has been heavily criticised in reviews I have read due to its many similarities to Nintendo's "Super Mario Kart" series. Dispite all this, I thought the game looked pretty good, and decided to give it a chance, and I was most pleasantly surprised. As the title suggests, this is a crazy racing game, which features various characters from Konami's back catalogue of games. You'll be able to play as Goemon (from the Mystical Ninja series), Dracula (from the Castlevania series), Ninja (from the Metal Gear Solid series), amongst others from Konami's other games. To start with you can play of one of eight characters, four further characters will become available when certain events occur (not exactly a new idea, but a challenge at least). The tracks that you race on are also based on various Konami games, with Metal Gear Solid, Mystical Ninja and Castlevania highly influencing the track design. The main mode in which you'll play is Krazy GP, in this there are various classes, which start off easy and gradually get harder. Each class has four tracks to race on, you must complete each of them by winning in third, or of course higher. In total there are sixteen tracks, and as well as the Krazy GP mode, there is Time Attack (race against the clock), Free Run (the place to practice) and the ever present "VS" or "Versus" modes. Also, to access higher classes of races in the Krazy GP mode, you'll have to attain a better driving license. To do this you must pass a series of challenges, for example come first against a difficult opponent, or finish a race in record time. The gameplay is a superb, the handling of the karts is spot on, and the game is very addictive. Early races are pretty easy, with only a few small obstacles such as trees and blocks and the turns are a lot easier. Later tracks provide more obstacles, such as holes in the track (you can jump over th
ese using the right trigger) and lava balls that set you on fire. Also, a major feature that affects the gameplay is power-ups. There is a good selection of power-ups available, including missiles (both standard "forward shot" (green shell) and "homing" (red shell)), turbo boosts (mushrooms), bombs (banana skins) and the amusing "Pigs" power-up which turns all your opponents into pigs reducing their speed greatly (the "Star" in MK/SMK). Picking up power-ups is essential, and will greatly affect the outcome of every race you play. You activate power-ups using the left trigger, and during the races you can also pick up coins, these are used to buy extra power-ups from the shop. Anyway, onto the graphics, Krazy Racers excels in this area, Konami have utilized the Game Boy Advance's Mode 7 capabilities to make one of the best looking GBA games at launch. Lush colours and great track and character detail and of course animation make this a great game to show off Nintendo's latest hand-held. The game also moves very smoothly despite the fact that there are normally between three and five character sprites simultaneously on screen, plus various obstacles and power-up sprites. The music and sound in Krazy Racers is great, when you switch on the game at the title screen you'll here the amusing 'Wai Wai Racing' theme tune, with vocals too, believe me, it makes a nice change from the Tetris music ! The game music is also great, particularly like the music in the Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania themed levels, the music in these, like the graphics is again based on the music from those games. Each character also has their own phrases, which they say when they pass someone, these speech samples are very clear, and help to give character to each of the racers, although they do get a little annoying at times, still thats what volume control is for. One thing I haven't given yet touched on
is the multiplayer features of this game. The one drawback of this game is that if you want to play the VS mode each player needs their own cartridge (handy for Nintendo), with between two and four can play using the GBA's link up cable. The multiplayer modes play exactly the like the single player modes, one mode is "match race" which is a standard race between players. The best mode would be battle mode, there are two battle mode games, and one is "bomb chaser", in this players pass a bomb around, when the time runs out, it explodes, causing the player carrying it to loose. The other game is "Chicken", in this players have race to the edge of a cliff, and brake as close to the edge as they can, without falling off. These games are also available in single player mode, but less fun than whipping your mates. Unfortunatly this game is a lot like Mario Kart. Many people will disregard Krazy Racers because of this, and claim that it is just a cheap rip off. But once you play the game you?ll be hooked, it is the most entertaining GBA game so far, and I would even go as far as saying that I prefer it over the original Super Mario Kart for the SNES. My advice is that you should really own this game, even if you are planning to buy Mario Kart Super Circuit, this is one game that you won't want to miss out on.
