Soul Reaver – the next step from Tomb Raider for Eidos? Well yes, and I would put money on Soul Reaver becoming a film as well, but hopefully a decent one – give it 3 more years, a chance for another 3 or 4 games to be released, starting off with Soul Reaver 2 – unsurprisingly the sequel to this one, and I would be sure that enough people would want a film. Soul Reaver is a good game, but gets boring – like Tomb Raider, and it’s basically the same game as Tomb Raider – just replace Lara Croft with a dead Vampire with broken wings called Raziel, change the wolves, bears and so on to gremlin type things and other beasts and you’ve got the same game. Similar gameplay. Similar graphics engine, same cameras – but then that’s expected! Graphically it looks dated, but there are some nice lighting effects to inspire you through levels of tedium – huge levels, some are impressive, some are just boring. The storyline is rather good though, with an explanation told to you after a very good intro – you’re setting out to fight Kain – you got too powerful, so he broke your wings, charming. Raziel can’t fly, but can jump high and glide – fighting off evil spirits and so on, there is a certain amount of sorcery and wizardry here, lots of spells to cast, lots to do and discover, but I didn’t really get on too well with it – I think a multiplayer option should be added to games like these, they get boring on your own! Overall, a decent game that is available at the right side of £10, so it’s worth getting, just I wasn’t overly astounded by it. If you like Tomb Raider, you’ll love this, if you hated Tomb Raider, you’ll throw up at this. 3 stars.
