"Lego Racers 2" is a video game released for the Gameboy Advance console in 2001 by Lego Media. It is a racing game based on Lego branded toys. In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for all ages.
The storyline is somewhat generic to racing games. Set in what I would perceive to be an outer space area, the objective is to become the galaxy's greatest racer. The player will compete in a series of races in aims of placing in the highest possible rank for further progression in the galaxy's tournament. Each of the race cars in this title are based on popular Lego toys which each carry certain distinctions such as a higher top speed or acceleration rate. I found the controls to be responsive and was able to make split-second reaction turns in areas where I did not see an upcoming bend. Multiplayer connectivity is offered by the use of an optional game link cable which would likely offer replay value to the game should other players with the game be present.
The visuals are something I particularly liked in this game. As with other Lego Media releases, the designs are very colourful and intend to reflect Lego playsets within their video games. This was accomplished well in the Racers 2 by offering "blocky" sorts of images which suggest coloured bricks from the playsets. While the cars appear visually pleasing I did not find them to compliment the background scenes. Each background scene appears to be identical and only offers slight changes in colour after a course change. The soundtrack is standard to racing games with upbeat, lively techno music and engine sounds heard throughout.
Overall, Lego Racers 2 is an interesting take on the racing genre. Through its excellent vehicle designs I would recommend it to prospective buyers.
