Lets face it there isn't a wide variety of games on the Mac. I have always bought Macs and followed Macs and believe them to be the best computers out there. But sadly about 2 Lets face it there isn't a wide variety of games on the Mac. I have always bought Macs and followed Macs and believe them to be the best computers out there. But sadly about 2 years ago my lust for games got the better of me and I ended up buying a PC. I'm sure you've all heard of this happening to loads of people. But now I come back to a Mac games site and realize that the games have hardly changed since i left. Starcraft Broodwar is still being reviewed as if it were new, and as i read most of the games in the listing i realize there haven’t really been many new releases over a two year period!!! I'm glad I didn't stick with the Mac because I'm sure i would just be bored when it comes to games. This is very disappointing because I was hoping that the Mac might make a huge comeback and it has sort of, but not a HUGE comeback. You see Macs being used far more on the TV and in computer magazines and I still believe them to be the best, they just don't do games. But there is a feeling when you own a Mac that you don't get by owning a PC. Maybe it's just me but somehow I feel different as everyone knows about PC's but it can be useful when getting a job to say you've been trained and know about both systems.
The gorgeous iMac's are beautiful, fast and reliable. Shame there's almost no games to play on them. It is really hard to find mac games. You are often left with two strategies: (1) Buy online (2) Download freeware or shareware. Buying online is obviously packed with the usual worries of online security. Not to mention that the site could be American and balancing the cost of shipping against delivery time could mean waiting several weeks for your games to arrive. There are a large number of mac games available as freeware or shareware. You can also find commercial demos of the (limited) mac games available. A couple of good sites are ZDNet.com and CNET.com - just look under the "mac" categories. If you want to buy games on the high street, you are probably in for a huge disappointment. They are almost impossible to track down. Nip in to a large, reputable department store - e.g. Selfridges - and you'll find a wide selection of games for the PC, for various console platforms, etc. Looking for mac format? Null point pour Grande Bretagne. One high street store that DOES stock mac games, though, is HMV. Admittedly the selection is very small but it is there. They stock current titles and a tiny selection of budget games. Nip down to your local branch now to buy some and register your interest. The only way mac users are going to get more games on the shelf is to continue to support the meagre selections available. Afterall, in the retail world the consumer is king. If enough mac titles start flying off the shelves, then we'll eventually get more of them!!
