I love my American sports including the Ice Hockey and I wanted to find a decent NHL game for my Gamecube and found NHL 2003 which was a fantastic Hockey game. The reason this game is so great just like the real sport is the realism and the the high speed action.
This version of the games has all the familiar modes you might expect, like Exhibition, Season, Franchise etc.
When you begin the game all the players on the starting line appear on the ice and are lined up waiting to hear the national anthem. After that the commentators give a brief introduction to the game and then it starts with the face-off.
The only thing in this game that isn't that realistic is the fighting unfortunately. If you watch the sport on TV you will know that there are not that many fights really. Alot of them are just scrums involving about 8 players and sometimes handbags.
All the checks and hits are really great and you almost feel it yourself as you are subjected to some bone crunching hits.
The franchise mode means you start out by selecting a team and then going to training camp with them. It is here that you teach the players their skills and then at the end of this you send a group of players to the minors. It is after that the season begins and you have to play 82 games. Your goal is to win the Stanley Cup which is the ultimate accolade. You can cut out players and drop them, or sign and swap players during the season to help you acheive your goal.
Overall, NHL 2003 for the GameCube is a fantastic hockey game and is extremely realistic. It really extends the GameCube to the full extent of it's capacity. I recommend this game to all ages whether you are an Ice Hockey fan or not but to be honest with you it helps if you are. Either way you will have hours of entertainment as I did when I played this.
NHL 2003 experience and features such as Game Breaker, 'On the Ice' sound and Dynamic Deke Control offer both and old NHL users alike the total control, speed, and hard-hitting competition that every sports fan loves.
