Advantages: Entertaining, Free, Simple
Disadvantages: Too Addictive
It's very rare that you find something refreshing on the web, and even rarer that it maintains your interest for more than three of four days, but ZapSpot seems to have broken the rules. For those of you who are wondering what I am talking about, I am gibbering inanely about a website (www.zapspot.com) that offers free (well, adware) games for download. The games are of every conceivable kind, and I'll cover those later. The website itself is fast, easy to use and easy on the eye. Always a good start. If the games are what you are after, you'll find them easily along with a decent description and download links. All of the games I have downloaded have reached me extremely fast and some can be delivered to you by e-mail, which can be even faster. The games on offer are very small (generally about 600k) and are NOT epic racing games or multi level dungeons, or even first person puzzle games. They are simple, entertaining classics. I started off with caveman cards, which was sent to me by a friend. Caveman Cards is absolutely stereotypical of the games offered by ZapSpot. It is comprised of three games, Stone Poker (regular poker, with a strange name), 21 Rock (blackjack) or boulder split (an unusual and newish game). Each is based on a traditional game, and is dealt by Gar (caveman dealer). You wager clams and get lots of clams if you win. Sounds like a regular card game, but something about it makes it insanely addictive. It might be the entertaining interface or the overall feel - whatever it is, you just can't stop. I've been addicted to the poker game since I managed four aces in one hand (and was rewarded with the score you are supposed to get for a royla flush, 5000 clams). Other games are along the same lines - classic games revamped with a sprinkling of addiction thrown in. I won't describe them all here, but the best are Color Break 2 (damn Americanised spelling), Hallow Meenies (I
wish I could remember the name of the game this was based on), Galactic Menace, X-Mas and Run Turkey Run. Quite simply, this place will keep you entertained for hours. All of the games are easy to pick up, and most become veryhard towards the end, which is always good for experienced gamers. For those looking for a simpler thrill for a while - you know who you are because your trigger finger aches all the time - or those who want to while away a few hours before the pubs open, I highly reccomend ZapSpot games as a way to pass the time. By the way, I apologise if this is in the wrong place. It could easily fit into websites of most other games section but I felt this was the most appropriate place.
