Rayman 2: the great escape. One of the few games I completed on my playstation and for a good reason. Rayman 1 was a fairly successful game and was much loved by many fans. Rayman 2 on the otherhand was critically received better and the sales were much higher.
Rayman 2 takes place in a world called The Glade of Dreams. Admineral razorbeard with the command of his robot army invades and destroys the heart of the world. The destruction of the heart causes rayman to lose all of his power leading ultimatley to his capture.
The game is played in a 3rd person perspective with camera control by the player being moderatley good but sometimes lacking. By collecting lums, the player unlocks more information about the game world.
Most of the levels are played in a linear sense unlike most modern games where you can choose between multiple paths. The enemy's most commenly robot pirates are equipped with different weapons including grenade launchers and blasters. There are also a few puzzles around the levels you will encounter throughout the game. Strafing is also included in combat and is very useful.
The main objective is to travel through the levels collecting as many lums and freeing as many people from cages along the way and to confront admiral razorbeard to free the world from slavery. In addition to the main levels there are also several bonus levels which are usually time trials.
The main weapon in the game is raymans fists which unlike the first one are not thrown. Rather he uses his fists to throw energy orbs which later on in the game can be charged before thrown. At some points in the game explosive powder kegs are found which can be picked up and thrown at enemy's. The large purple plums that are seen in the first game can also be used in this game to immobolise most enemy's and ride on dangerous surfaces such as lava. In addition to the plum there are also robot rockets which first must be tamed before you have the ability to ride them. In some levels, Rayman gains the ability to fly; in one level by use of his helicopter hair, in another by holding on to a flying gunpowder barrel. This is also the only rayman game in which rayman can swim as I do not remember a swimming level in rayman 3.
The graphics are beautifully crafted for its time with a fluent frame rate on the console and colorfull graphics. The game rarely lags and has no graphical glitches that are noticable.
The playstation version has only 800 lums rather than one thousand but has several benefits from other versions. Compared to the n64 version this one may have less lums but has better graphics and frame rate. The pc version while having the best features can have annoying controls unless a joypad is owned.
Exlusive to the playstation version is real voices rather then the characters spouting gibberish. Certain levels are changed in this version and unfortunatley some were removed altogether. I am not sure why the developers decided to make this change as the n64 had all of the levels with only a maximum capacity of 64mb when the playstations discs could hold up to 700mb. Maybe the voices took up alot of space or the developers were just plain lazy. Also exclusive to this version is an enemy called ninjaws. When the player collects 90% of the yellow lums in the game a special minigame is unlocked which is thought to be an early beta version of the original rayman 2 which was intended to be a 2d platformer similair to the original rayman.
A great game that almost anyone should enjoy. A huge improvement over the original and the best rayman game of all time. But if you have a joypad of some sort then I would definetley recommend the pc version over this one.
This review is about about the first rayman, being as the 1st isnt on here, im doing it on the second installmet to the playstation one!!It was created by ubisoft and made its first appearance in 1995. It was also realeased on Jaguar, Saturn and MS-DOS as well as playstation.
It is a 2-D sidescrolling game. In the game you play the part as rayman, who is trying to protect his home from Mr. Dark. As well as doing this you have to set free all of the electoons who Mr Dark has trapped in cages. You must travel to 5 different worlds setting the free and defeating mr darks minions. Till finally defeating mr dark.
On the way you gain new abilities. Some of them are given to him permanently by Betilla the fairy and otheres only temporary. Some of the powers include:
Telescopic punching fist
Grabbing onto and swinging from flying rings
Hanging onto ledges
Which are the ones that i can remember.
i have always loved this game but never liked the rest. it has kept me entertained for years and no doubt if i played it again now. the game play is easy and simple to understand for all ages.
Well. One of the best PS2 games. Rayman 2 is an awesome Action/ Adventure game. I think its the best game for PS2 yet. The story line is Pirates are taking prisoners. They find Rayman and throw him in a cage with his friend Globox. What the creater put in the game was very interesting. The characters Actually talk. Rayman, Globox, Every single character. I made a grading Chart. Graphics: 9.5 Very Very Beautiful graphics I have never ever seen better. The Graphics are defiently a big part in a final grade Concept: 9.1 Its a good idea they made a new Rayman game but they make too much. Its good that its a bit different but theres a rayman for playstation,nitendo64,PS2, Dreamcast, Gameboy. Alot huh. Entertainment 9.3 A very fun game (IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED RAYMAN). I think this Rayman is the best yet. It gets boring when the game loads Control 9.6 The game has fine control. The only bad thing is you cant use the Control pad. Other than that the game is perfect. OVERALL: 9.4 + Good Graphics + controls are supperb + cool 2 player minigames + New areas that arent in the other games. + Good sound + cool new voices - sometimes the voices get too soft - No control pad - You have to Buy Items
This game is about a hoard of pirates have invaded Raymans world, stealing the life energy of the planet. Rayman is the only hope, but first has to recover his so called "legendary powers" before he can combat Evil Machiavellian Razorbeard. This game has 15 worlds and 47 hard levels, it also has a bonus level if you can find it. In this game you have over 230 freinds and enemys so get ready to kick some butt. Enjoy!!
Rayman 2: The Great Escape is sure to have you in a spin!. This game is both ideal for all ages mywife completed the game and became totally addicted to it. My son kept asking for the game to be put on as he loved it so much and he’s only 2. This time Rayman needs to take on the malicious Space Pirates who've bullied and captured his people and taken all the energy they had and split it into 'Lums', which are scattered all round Rayman's world. Our hero must search all the levels, collect all the Lums and rescue all his friends to beat the Pirates. Rayman is a great little character with a vast range of abilities. He still has the helicopter hair and this is still one of his main skills and you have to use this throughout the game and this enables him to reach the platforms that would otherwise be out of range. He can also climb walls, swim, swing from vine to vine, bounce off toadstools and even water-ski! Controlling him is dead easy to grasp and the excellent configuration puts his trademark moves right under your fingers. He can switch easily between shooting, throwing and jumping actions so that you have a great versatility when you control him. The game takes place in a brilliantly imaginative and wide 3D landscape, which means that Rayman can go almost anywhere he wants to, within reason. The level design is done in such a way so you can change between them when you want to. You hop between levels via teleports that are found at the beginning of each level or given to you when you complete one of the levels. You must help your friends to escape by shooting them free of the cages they have been locked away in and sometimes you have to free them to progress through the game. For example, you meet a water-skiing snake that drags you through an inaccessible bit of swampland, if you don't spot him and set him free there is no way you can get over the marshes. A whale you release helps you swim underwater by giving you air and
your mate Globox is a strong pirate killer. The imagination and differences in objectives you need to complete to finish the game is great. Each level, although containing some of the same objectives, are really different in design and landscape. The levels that you pass through on your adventure are varied and interesting; from lava filled caves to sunny, beautiful forests. Rayman is a challenging 3D-platform game and in some places requires more thought than your average title in this genre. Things aren't always what they seem and you will have to interact with items like bombs, rolling barrels and lifts to complete some of your challenges. Pre-release problems seem to have been ironed out. Graphically it looks great for the PlayStation, although it will be fantastic to see what old Rayman looks like on the PlayStation2. The sound and voice-overs are entertaining and the soundtrack really captures the action and feel of the game. The colours and characters in the game should be a hit with gamers of all ages, the sense of humour is universal and reminiscent of the kind used in some of the family orientated cartoons that have been released over the last few years.
